To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. HAVLENA, a citizen of United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne, State of Michigan,

have invented certain new and useful lm provements in 'lelephone-Mouthpieces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to mouth-pieces for telephone transmitters and is designed more particularly for use in connection with public telephones which are used indiscrimi-- i are frequently deposited in the transmitters.

A further purpose of the present invention is to provide a detachable mouth piece of the above character which is of extremely simple construction and may be manufactured and marketed at a relatively low cost.

With the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, there is shown a mouth-piece as contemplated by the inven tion, it being preferably constructed of relatively stiff paper or card-board and consisting of a circular band or sleeve 5 that is provided on one of its edges at spaced intervals with fingers 6 extending outwardly at an angle therefrom.

A bell shaped speaking tube 7 is also provided, the smaller opening of-which is of the same diameter as the band 5 so that its circumscribing edge is coincident with the finger provided edge of the latter, the fingers 6 embracing the tube and being pasted or otherwise suitably secured thereto so as to rigidly connect the tube and band.

Inter-posed between the adjacent edges of the tube and band is a diaphragm 8 which is punctured with a plurality of perforations 9 so that the sound of the noise may freely penetrate the same. This diaphragm is also provided at spaced distances around its circumference with a plurality of integral fingers 10 which radiate therefrom and extend between and beyond the tube and band, they being bent to engage the outer surface of the tube and also pasted or otherwise secured thereto.

A mouth-piece constructed in the above described manner may be conveniently carried in the purse or pocket in readiness for use and when applied to a telephone as illustrated at A in Fig. 1, is disposed with the band 5 pressed over and snugly encircling the flared mouth ,of the transmitting tube B of the telephone.

The mouth-piece is thus held firmly in position and may be used in the manner of the ordinary telephone mouth-piece. When the conversation is ended it is evident that the mouth piece may be quickly and conveniently removed from the transmitter tube B and again placed in the pocket or the like for future use.

What I claim i A mouthpiece for telephone transmitters consisting of a circular band having integral fingers extending from one edge, a speaking tube secured by said fingers to the band, and a sound penetrable diaphragm interposed between said band and tube and having also integral fingers. secured to the latter.
