Be it known that VILLIAM 1V. PARKER, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Edgerton, Alberta, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Wagon-Seat Locks; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in wagon seats, and particularly to locks therefor.

One object of the present inventi ,n is to irovide a simple and effective device of this character which can be quickly and easily applied or removed, and which will hold the seat against unauthorized removal.

Another object is to provide a device of this character which can be easily appliedto any of the ordinary Wagon seats now in use without any modifications to the seat, or the wagon except the kformation of a socket on the outer face of each side of the wagon box.

@ther objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a wagon box and seat showing my invention applied thereto.

Fig. 2 is a trent elevation 'of the seat and the locking device, the sides of the wagon box being shown in section.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4L is a plan View ot the blanks from which the locking device is formed.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing 10 represents the sides of the wagon box, 11 the seat, 1Q the springs supporting the seat, and 13 the strips to which the springs are secured. These strips are provided with the usual hooks 14 which are engaged over the upper edges of the sides of the wagon box to support the same in proper position within the box. My im proved lock is used in connection with the sides of the box and the before-meatifmedy strips 13.

An inverted angular U-shaped member 15, formed Jfrom suitable metal, such as stiff strap iron, has one of its legs secured to the outer face of one of the strips 13, while the other leg is disposed against the outer face of the adjacent side of the wagon box. 0n this last-named leg, and at the lower end thereof, there is hinged a plate 16 which extends upwardly to a distance equal to that of the said leg, and in the upper end there is formed an apertured lug 17 which is arranged to be received in a slot 18 formed in the adjacent end of a plate 19 hinged to the U-shaped member at 19. A padlock or other suitable locking means is adapted to be passed through this lug, after said lug has been passed through the slot. In the lower portion of the plate 16 there is formed an opening 20 which is adapted to register with the opening 21 of a plate 22 secured to the side of the box. 1n the opening there is retained a tongue 23 which is adapted to be passed through the opening of the leg, shown at 24, and into the opening of the plate 2Q..

In the operation of the device the plate 16 is first released from the plate 19, and thea the seat slipped into place in thel usual manner, but with the U-shaped member straddling the side of the wagon box.- When the seat is in place, the plate 16 is swung up against the outer leg of the U-shaped member so that the tongue passes through the opening of the leg and the plate 22, after which the plate 19 is swung down to receive the apertured lug 17 and the pin or padlock passed through the lug. The seat is thus firmly locked to the side of the wagon box and cannot loe taken therefrom until the lock is released, thereby insuring the safety ofthe seat.

It will of coursebe understood that the other end of the seat is equipped with the same elements just described so that both ends of the seat are firmly secured to the box.
