To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ARMINI Common and JOHN R. RICHARDSON, both citizens of the United States, residing at Madera, in
the county of Madera and State of Califor nia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds for Constructing Concrete lValls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wall molds which are used in building hollow walls from concrete or similar material, the object of the invention being to provide means for constructing hollow walls from concrete such walls having internal projecting portions or abutments which are located opposite one another, the inner and outer walls being tied together.
Another object of our invention is to'provide the outer molds with means for recessing the walls to provide means for holding the molds in position in casting the next course of the wall and to provide the inner wall with recesses which may be used to receive joist-hangers.
A further object of our invention is to provide a. mold of such construction that the same may be used in molding hollow walls of concrete, the parts of the mold being interchangeable and of such a size that the units may be handled without the use of scafi olding.
Inv the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred form of our invention, Figure l, is a side elevation. Fig. 2, is a plan view showing the parts of the mold Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional view, taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4, is a horizontal section of a portion of the hollow wall and of a part of one of the outer molds. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view. Fig. 6, is a vertical sectional view of a portion of one of the innenmolds, and Figs. 7, 8 and 9 are detail views.
In pouring or constructing hollow walls from a concrete mixture we provide exterior mold plates or forms 10 and 10', the upper edges thereof having properly spaced loops l1 and 11 to receive the end portions of spacing bars. The exterior or outer mold plates or forms 10 and 10 have formed Specification of Letters Patent.

thepurpose of such arrangement being to position the molds or forms so that they may be maintained by the walls as the construction of the same progresses. The exterior faces of the mold plates or forms 10 and 10 have attached thereto battens ll, the ends of the battens terminating on a line with the slots 12 and 12, and to the ends of the battens are pivoted members or flat bars 13, the projecting ends thereof being adapted to be positioned to extend through the slots 12 and 12 to form in the concrete recesses, which primarily serve to sustain the side plates in proper position in molding the walls and secondly to provide in the walls recesses which are adapted to receive hangers for the beams of the building, or other hangers used for carrying a scaffold used in dressing the outer walls and in pointing up the same. The recesses may be utilized to receive blocks of wood or wedges to which strips may be nailed. The indenting members or bars 13 have projecting portions 18 that provide grasping portions for moving said members upon the pivots that enter the ends of the battens 14.
The mold plates or forms 10 and 10 have attached thereto at suitable intervals ver tical strips 15 to provide 'hard surfaces against which cams 16 on Udframes 17 will abut, such frames providing means for clamping the inner and adjustable forms 18 to the outer mold plates.
The U-frames 17 on one side have pivoted thereto cams 16, which are integral with arms which have bent over portions that contact with the outside edge of the part of the frame to which the cams are secured.

The spacing or transverse bars 25 are provided with upward extending and centrally located loops 2G, and with longitudinal slots 27 for the passage therethrough oi the turn pins on the side pieces of the inner form. The centrally located loop of the spacing bar, the loops 11 andll, and the turn pins 24: connect the inner and outer forms so that they may be raised in unison when power in an upward direction is applied to t is loops 26,

The ends of the mold or form may be closed when desired in any appropriate manner as for instance by an end piece 86 that is provided on one side with battens or strips 37 and 38 for engagement with the ends 30 or" the members 29 and the ends of the sides 10 and 10 of the outer forms, as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawings.

Thexmold hereinbefore described may be used in the casting or pouring of concrete walls with air spaces between. the two side walls, and with our molds or forms one: of the walls may vary in thickness from the other wall, by properly setting the inner members of the mold, and when the walls between the abutments are of a different thickness from the opposite walls abutments of the same size may extend upward for the entire height of the wall, the lap plates which form truncate-d wedge shaped abutlVhen the "foundation. has set tie-- ments are of greater rigidity than if curved and the abutments will have a greater surface exposed to the air which results in the more quickly setting of the cement mixture.
I/Ve do not limit ourselves to the precise construction of the parts herein shown and described, as the parts may be modified within the scope of our claims.
IVe claim.
1. In combination with means for sup porting the outer forms of molds used in the construction of concrete walls, of outer forms provided with apertures therethrough which are positioned in both vertical and longitudinal alinement, and wall-indenting and form-supporting means which are pivotally associated with the forms.
In a mold for use in constructing Walls from concrete, outer form plates having vertically and horizontally alined apertures therethrough, means pivotally associated with the plates and provided with end members which extend through the apertures to form recesses in the concrete when positioned to extend beyond the inner faces of the form plates.
3. In a mold for constructing walls from concrete and the like, outer side plates having apertures therethrough, said apertures being in vertical alinement and spaced at different distances from the top and bottom edges of the side plates, and wall-recessing and mold supporting means which are pivotally attached to the outer side plates et. In a mold for use in the construction of walls from concrete, side plates having vertically and horizontally alined apertures therethrough the apertures being spaced to one side of the longitudinal center of the side plates, wall-indenting and side plate supporting members maintained in pivotal engagement with the side plates, said wall indenting and side plate supporting members having horizontally disposed end members of a length sufiicient to extend beyond the inner face of the side plates.
In a mold for use in the construction of walls from concrete, side plates having vertically and horizontally alined apertures therethrough, means pivotally associated with the side plates and adapted to be swung into position for forming recesses in the wall and similar means for engagement with the recesses to space and support the side plate previous to molding a further portion of the wall.
6. In a mold for use in the construction of hollow concrete walls, the combination with inner forms substantially as shown, of outer forms which are of a greater height than the inner forms, means for associating the forms to maintain the upper ends thereof on the same plane, apertures which are elongated horizontally through the outer forms, mold supporting and spacing means bent members located between the ends of the inner forms and engaging therewith, said members being shaped to provide the walls with oppositely located and inwardly extending abutments.
8. In molds for use in the construction of hollow walls from concrete, outer forms provided with loops which extend above the upper edges of the forms, inner forms pro vided with turn-pins which extend above the upper edges of the inner forms, a spacing bar provided with slots for the passage therethrough of the turn-pins; said spacing bar being of a length to engage with the loops attached to the outer molds.
9. In combination with outer forms provided with upward extending loops, of expansible inner forms provided with upward extending turn-pins, and a spacing bar having therethrough longitudinal slots for the passage of the turn-pins and means for engagement with the inner faces of the inner forms and the outer faces of the outer forms.
10. In a mold for use in constructing hollow walls from concrete, the combination of outer forms, inner forms of less length than he length of the outer forms and provided with recesses, abutment forming members constructed to be maintained in place by engagement with the recesses in the sides of the end portions of the inner forms and provided with angular bends to provide ends, converging sides and a flat central portion.
11. In a mold for use in constructing hollow walls from concrete, comprising inner and outer forms, the inner forms being separated longitudinally, lap plates having a plurality of bends which shape the plate and provide the same with converging sides that are connected by a flat portion and alined end portions for engagement with the inner forms.
12. In a mold the combination with inner and outer forms the inner forms being of less length than the length of the outer forms, lap plates that are adapted to bridge spaces between the ends of the inner forms to provide on the opposite inner walls abutments of a truncated wedge shaped configuration which are connected by tie bars and recesses in the lap plates that are adapted to receive the tie bars.
13. In a mold for use in the construction of hollow walls which are molded in site each of the walls having oppositely located and inward extending abutments with converging sides, the Walls being tied together by ties Which span the space between the abutments, the combination of outer forms, inner forms of less length than the outer 5 forms, abutment forming members having inward converging side Walls and end portions for engagement with the inner sides of the inner forms the lower edges of the abutment forming members having formed therein recesses for the reception of tie bars, 10 substantially as. shown.
