To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLENLF. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States; residing at Madrid, in the county of Boone and State of Iowa, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Acetylene Miners Lamps, of which the following is aspeciiication.
My invention relates to new. and useful improvements in acetylene miners lamps, the primary object of my invention being the provision of a lamp of the above character having a supplemental gas generating chamber which may be filled independently ofthelamp proper and from which a pipe leads to a burner disposed in proximity to the main burner of the lightso that when gas is generated in the supplemental chamber it will be ignited at the supplemental burner from the flame of the main burner.
Another object of my invention consists in forming the supplemental generator in the form of a cylindrical chamber having a removable cap, the cylinder being adapted to receive both the carbid and the water necessary for the generation of the acetylene gas and the cap being provided with a strainer for preventing the passage of impurities from the generating chamber to the supplemental burner.
In this connection another object which I have in view is the provision of a novel and simple means for connecting the strainer to the cap.
With these and other objects in View my invention will be more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and then specifically pointed out in the claim which is attached to and forms a part of this application.

In order to insure a clear and accurate understanding of my invention, I have illustrated it in connection with a conventional form of miners lamp including the carbid holding receptacle 10, the water chamber .11 which has threaded connection with the carbid receptacle shown at 12 and which has the usual fillingispout 13. The feed of water from the chamber 11 to the receptacle 10 is controlled by a valve the stem of which is shown at 1 1,,in the usual manner and the lamp is provided with a suitable bracket 15 by means of which mincrs cap. I The main burner 16 of the 'lamp extends-centrally through a circular reflector 17 and disposed adjacent it is a mechanical lighting device 18 of any suit able type.
As now placed upon the market when either water or carbid is exhausted the lamp must be extinguished while a fresh supply of either water or carbid or both is supplied. It is therefore oftentimes necessary for a miner when working alone to renew his water or carbid supply in the dark with the result of a considerable loss of time and trouble. To avoid this I provide a supple mental burner 19 which I locate adjacent the main burner 16 and a supplemental generator indicated as a whole by the numeral 20 for supplying acetylene gas to the su plemental burner. This generator in the present instance is of cylindrical formation including the body 21 having a closed bottom 22, the body being soldered, brazed or otherwise secured to the water chamber 11 of the lamp immediately at the rear of the reflector 17. This body is open at its upper end and at such end is internally threaded to receive the threaded annular flange 23 of a cap 24. This cap 2st is also provided with a peripheral stop flange 25 to insure a close sealing and is provided centrally with a swivel eye 26 to receive one end of a chain 27 the opposite end of which maybe correspondingly anchored to the lamp. By this means loss of the cap during filling of the supplemental generator is avoided. The threaded flange 23 is of considerable length and at its free edge is incrimped as shown at 28 to engage a cylindrical plug of felt 29 or other suitable material which extends throughout substantially half the length of the generator when the cap is in place. A pipe 30 leads fromthe generator adjacent the lower end of the flange 28 through the reflector to the burner 19.
In operation, when it becomes necessary it may be attached to a I act .to produce acetylene gas copies-oi this patent may be obtained for Water, carbid or both first removes the cap 24L of the supplemental generator and then places one or more pieces of carbid in the bottom of the generator and adds a small quantity of Water,immediately replacing the. cap. The carbid and Water thus brought together in the supplemental generator rewhich passes through the plug or filter of felt 29 through the pipe 30 to the burner 19 at which point it is ignited by the flame from the main burner 16. The carbid holding receptacle ,of the lamp proper maythen be removed and its supply of carbid replenished by the light given off from the supplemental burner 19. Obviously the supplemental generator needvnot beof very large dimensions and in some instances, if preferred, its body portion may be inclosed in the Water chamber of the lamp proper and its cap merely exposed through the top of such chamber. It

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
An attachment for acetylene miners lamps including a casing adapted for connection to the exterior of a miners lamp, the casing being open at one end, a closure the casing, a plug of absecured to the closure by the flange and projecting into the casing, and a pipe leading from the-casing with one end covered'byitheplug and the opposite end adapted to receive a burner.
