IMPROVEMENT IN INK-FOUNTAINS.
Speciation forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,651, dated February 13, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, HENRY H. THORP, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State or Ohio, have invented Ink-Feeder for Printing-Presses, of which the following is a specication:
This invention relates to au ink-fountain and feeder for supplying ink to printing-presses having revolving-disk ink-distributing tables, which is constructed and operated as follows:
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a top or plan view. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a detached view or' the lever which operates the ink-feedin g roller. Fig. 4 is a section through Fig. 5 is asection through A, Figs. l and 2, is a box or reservoir for containing ink, which is supported by a bracket, B, that may be attached to the frame of the press which carries the disks. The end of the reservoir A toward the disk is made open, and into which is fitted a i'eedroller, G, the journals of which have their bearings in suitable boxes east in the sides of the box A, the jour- 11a-l on one side extending through and having attached a ratchet-wheel, D. Playing on the same journal is a lever, E, having an oval hole, e, through it, and diagonally across it, which allows it to be lifted slightly when the lever is moved backward, to allow the inclined tooth or pawl fon its upper end to pass over the teeth on the wheel D. The journal-boxes have upright projections g g, through which are placed diagonally set-screws h h, which bear upon Babbitt-metal caps i i placed over the journals. rEhe caps i i are held in place by the screws h 71., which, standing in a diagonal line over them, permit thein to be readily removed when desired. have a groove in them, which forms a convenient oil-cup.
I claiml. The proj ections g g, the set-screws h h, and the caps y i, when constructed and combined with the feed-roller O and the reservoir A, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. 1 claim the lever E, having a diagonal opening, e, and a hook, j', and the ratchetwheel D, in combin ation with the feed-roller O, as and for the purpose set forth.
