Description

.y @omwegen p allwhom z'tvma'y concern:I
e y113e it: known that I..
MINNIE ELIZEBE'IH H. POLTBGHBAGH, a `citnnmrof -the-` Republic ofGuatemala,.residingl at San'Mi el de rl'-ucurn, .Republic of'y Guatemala,` entral Americayhave invented "certain new :and usefulf'I-Inprovements in Corn-Washers; and I do hereby `declare the 1 followingy toLbe a. full,
' clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enableothers'skilled in the art qto'which` it appertains to make u and use the Same Thisy invention relates to a corn washer and more particularly to a device especially adapted for thoroughly washinghulledxcorn after it is boiled in ashes or lune ypreparatory to making tortillas therefrom. l
An object ofthisfinvention 1s to provide i a perforated-cylinder for receiving the 'corn' `and havin an agitator therein for thor-`v` Joughly was ing vthe corn and loosening the shells from the kernels.v
, y Anothery object oflthis invention istoprovide'; a' concave top havinperforations lthereinz wherebyv water may the cylinder vwhile rotating the agitator to.
poured into .y v thoroughly vsoak and wash the corn.-
i corn may the provision of a corn washer stated character,`which shall be simple, du-
" A further lobject of this invention is to 1 f rovidey an'inner cylinder adapted to slide Uso the outflow. of watertherefrom so thatthe withinthe perforated cylinder for kretarding be thoroughly washed and' Whereby the inner cylinder may be removed to allow the 'waterto pass rapidly from the perforated cylinder when desired. y
`A lstill further object of this invention is i a rable and eicient, and which maybe manufactured and sold at acomparatively'low St. i v v n v'Yliththese and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description-proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described. and
claimed.

-Referring indetailv to :the drawin ,vthe numeral 1 indicates `a perforatedv cy inder having its lower end? closed :byfa bottom wall 2 which has a plurality of perforations 3 and?` r Animacion mcd november 11s,` 191e. y serial 1i.11s1,435.
g. 3 is a transverse'sectionaly View takenv `so f view'of a modified form of operatingineans f a-central boss if for receiving the lowerend x of an .agitator` 5. The agitatory consists of v f af-vertioalrod having itsvlower end reduced tol be received by the bosse-'andhaving .a plurality of perforations Q therein. A suitable lhandle 10 is securedto the reduced end 7 of the for rotating the agitatorwithin l rThe cover8hasn" 1 agitator 5 the perforated cylinder,1. a downwardly depending `flange 11 for an arms "6 secured theretoand arranged in staggered;relation.V Theupper end? ofl the vertical rod of the agitator` is rey ducedas illustrated at 7 and extends through` `v la concaved cover 8 whchhas a. plurality of engagement with the upper edge of the perforated cylinder 1;
A pair ofv inter-crossing'strips v12 are sitioned upon the bottom'2l and have each end bent back upon itself to form footxrests '13, the ends of which are bolted or otherwise secured to the flange y14 formed on the bot-j fv tom 2.
A cyiinder'is is Slidably mounted 'winmp. early.v V
the perforated cylinder 1I for closing the illustrated ink Fig. 2. 1
InI` operation, the handle 1,0 y"is removed from theagitator and the cover'Sgis removed from the perforatedl cylinder `1. yHulled corn is then placed `withinlthe perforated' linder 1 and the cover' is `later replaced t ereon and thehan'dle 10 is connected to` the agitator. By ypouring water within they" concave' cover 8, the water passes through kthe perforations 9 intovthe perforated cyl-j:
inder 1 and is prevented from'passingfoutv` of thei"sides of the vperforated cylnde'rvby thek inner c linder v15. By rotating the agi# tator lby t e handle"10,xthe-corn is thoroughly washed and soaked, the :watery with#y 'in the perforated cylinder 1 gradually pass- 1n A ter the corn has becomev vthorou hly washed and soaked so that the shell o the o cornbecomes loosened from the kernel, the cylinder 15 is removed from the perforated cylinder thereby allowing the water with- 1n the perforated cylinder to pass rapidlyV the s aft 17 and is in mesh with a beveled gear 20 carried upon the reduced end 7 of the agitator 5, whereby upon rotation of the crank handle'18, the shaft 17 will be rotated,
vrotating the agitator 5 through the beveled gears 19 and 20.
While I have shown and described vthe preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement out through the perforated bottom.`
Oopin of this patent my be obtained for ive cents each, by addressing the v Washingtoml). 0.
of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A corn washer comprising a perforated cylinder, a perforated bottom closing one end of said cylinder, a perforatedl cover closing the other end of said cylindegan agitator journaled in the cover and bottom, said cover being concave to form a pocket for receiving water and permitting it to pass in the cylinder to wash corn therein, a solidv cylinder: located in the perforated cylinder for closing -the perforations therein tok compel 'the water to run from the cover through the corn and out of the bottom, said solid cylinder adapted to be raised upwardlyv in the perforated cylinder-to permit the water to drain quickly through the perforated cylinder, and means for rotating the agitator.
In testimonl whereof I alix my signature in presence o two Witnesses.
