To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WESLEY H. Lown, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glen Frazier, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pockets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pockets, and particularly to a vest pocket designed to hold a watch, and an object of the invention is the provision of a pocket that will admit of dirt and such matter that may enter the pocket being discharged therefrom, sovas to prevent injury being done to the watch casing and also overcoming liability of dirt entering the watch casing and accumulating in the works of the watch.
Other objects will apear and be better understood from that em odiment of my invention of which the following is a speciication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, in which:
Figure l is a detail view of the outer face of one side of the vest, showing the improved pocket in dotted lines,
Fig. 2 is a view of the inner face of the side of the vest, showing the pocket applied thereto, and
Fig. 3 is a vertical section, taken through the side of the vest and the pocket.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the letter A designates a portion of the vest, having its inner face provided with the usual lining B, and the letter C designates a slit formed in the vest, for providing the usual mouth for the pocke't.
The improved pocket is designated, as an entirety, by the nulneral 1 and is formed of opposed upper and spaced sections 2, that are formed of the usual kind of cloth employed for making pockets, and a lower section 3, which is bent into U form in cross section and has the upper edges of its sides secured to the lower ends of the sections 2, in any suitable manner. The section 3 has the adjacent opposite edges secured to each other, and the said section 3 forms the bottom wall for the pocket and is formed of knitted fabric, as shownmore particularly in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing. By providing the pocket with the ,lower knitted section 3, any dirt, or other matter, that may find its way into the interior of the pocket can be discharged through the knitted fabric forming the section 3, so as to insure the interior of the pocket being kept in cleaned condition, so as not to tarnish or injure the casing of a watch, or
rother tarnishable metal placed within the pocket; also prevent the accumulation of dust within the pocket, which might have a tendency to enter within the watch casing and come in contact with the works, and prevent proper working of the latter. It will also be obvious that when the section 3 becomes worn, the same can be conveniently detached from 'the sections 2 and a new section similar to the one 3, shown in the drawing, substituted therefor.
It will, of course, be understood that various changes might be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, is:
A pocket for garments consisting of opposed upper cloth sections secured to each other along their side edges and spaced from each other at their lower edges, and a lower section formed of knitted fabric bent into substantially U form and having the upper edges of the sides thereof secured to the lower edges of the respective upper sections, and having the adjacent opposed side edges secured to each other.
