IMPROVEMENT IN COOKING-STOVES.
Specication frming part of Letters Patent No. 123,419, dated February 6,1872.
Specication describing certain Improvements in Cooking-Stoves, invented by JOHN A. PRICE, of Scranton, Luzerne county, Penn- Sylvania.
Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section Fig. 2, a perspective view, showing the opening in the hearth and door at the end ot' the ash-pit; Fig. 3, a view of the inside ot' the vertical iiue at the bach of the reservoir, showing the door therein; and Fig. 4, a perspective view of the steamescape opening and slide.
The invention relates to a hot-Water reservoir combined With a iue that runs horizon tally from the back ofthe stove, and also vertically along the back of the reservoir above the stove, and having a door in its vertical part above the stove, Which, when opened, allows the heated current in the flue to strike directly against the back ot' the reservoir, and, when closed, shuts oii said heated current from the reservoir, thus enabling' the amount of heat applied to the latter to be regulated; the said iiue and reservoir having also communicating orilices for the escape of steam from the latter to the former, which orifices are furnished with a slide that is connected with the door aforesaid.
A horizontal iiue, Z, opens out of the bach 'of the stove above the oven, and passes across the upper part of a Warming-closet, m. Di-
rectlyr above the vflue l and Warming-closet m is placed a hot-Water reservoir, n. In the back of the vertical iiue Z is a door, o, which, when opened, exposes a part of the reservoir to immediate contact with the contents of the iiue, whence results a sudden increase of heat in the Water. There is a continuous opening through the Walls both of the iiue l and reservoir n, which openings are closed by a slide, p, worked from the top ofthe reservoir. By opening this slide steam from the reservoir can exhaust into the flue, thus preventing the saturation of the air of the room with moisture. The slide p may be connected with the door o, so that when the latter is opened in order to increase the heat of the Water the slide p shall be closed for the saine purpose; and When the door is closed the slide shall be opened. A rod, fr, running through the back plate of the ue Z', may be connected with the door o, forming a separate means of operating the same. The piece .s that forms the outer end of the flue Z is made removable, in order to facilitate the clearing of the iiues.
I claim as my inventionl. The reservoir n, combined with the ue l l', situated above the stove, and provided with the door 0, as specified.
2. The reservoir n and iiue Z', having com municating oriiices for the escape of steam from the former to the latter, Whensaid orices are provided With the slide p.
3. The slide p, combined With the door o,
when both are connected so as to Work toget11 er, as specified.
