APPLICATION man JUNE 15. 1915.
232 17 I Patented July 3, 1917.
- FRILNK AUBIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. I

Specification of Letters Patent.
rammed July 3, 1917.
Application filed June 15,1915. Serial No. 34,246.
'1 Yb on whom it may concern:
Be it known that l. Fnaxn Armin, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain neW- and useful, Ilmprovernents in fdash-l asteners, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to sasl'i fasteners, and more partirnilarly to that class of sash fastoners cmployinga locking linl: and aslid' :ing bolt.
The primary object of my invention is to provide in. sash fastei'ler oi the above class which will positively and securely lock the sashes of a window in closed position, and which will prevcntrattling of the sashes.
Another object oi my invention is to provide a sash fastencr of the class above described which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, strong and durable, and effective in operation.
With the above and other objects in view my invention resides preferably in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-.-
Figure .l is a top plan view of a portion of the meeting rails of an upper and lower sash showing my improved sash fastener in position and locked.
Fig. is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of 1 1. W
Similar reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the various views of the drawings. 1
In the drawings wherein the preferred embodiment oil-mg invention illustrated, I have-"designated theyupper and lower sashes of any ordinary type l and 2, respectively.
My invention comprises two eomponent parts, namely, a retaining link and a looking sliding bolt. I provide a casing 3 mounted on the upper face of the meeting rail 2, said casing serving to house a slidable bolt 4; having a handle extending laterally therefrom. It will be apparent that a li'ingitudinally disposed centrally losated aperture 6 is provided in the casing 3 in which the bolt 4 is adapted to be reciprocated. The casing, 3 is provided with an elongated [aperture 7 communicating with the central aperture 6 and 1s prov1ded with a right angular portlon 8 for reception of the handle a when in locked position, as shown to advantage in Figs. 1 and 2. The base portion of the casing 3 is extended to provide ears 9 through which fastening screws 10 passfor retaining the casing in position on the meeting rail 2.
An upstanding portion or lug 11 is mounted on the extended base portion of the casing 3 and is provided with an aperture 12 disposed therein concentrically with the aperture 6. The aperture 12 is adapted to receive one extremity of the sliding bolt when in locked position, as shown to advantage in Figs. 1 and 2. A plate or base 13 is mounted upon and screwed to the meetlog rail 1 by means of screws or the like 14.
A plurality of lugs 15 are provided on the plate 13 and project upwardly therefrom and serve as bearings for a pin 16, said pin 16l1aving a connecting or retaining link 17 hingedly mounted thereon. The link 17 is preferably tapered slightly throughout its length to facilitate its insertion between the lug 11 on the base portion of the casing 3 and one extremity of said casing. The free extremity of the link 17 is enlarged as at 18 and provided with a laterally extending aperture 19, said aperture being adapted to register with the apertures 12 and 6 to receive the sliding bolt 4, as shown to advantage in Fig. 3.
It will be noted that when locking the up.
per and lower sashes, the link 17 is moved.
into the position shown to advantage in Fig. 3 and the bolt 4 slid into engagement therewith. This will n0t0n1y lock the window against opening by unauthorized persons, but will effectively prevent rattling of the sashes. It is to be understood, of course,
that various changes may be made in the minor details of the device which do not depart from the spirit andscopeof the same as claimed.
What is claimed is: t
1. A lock for window sashes, including a casing adapted to be secured to the upper face of the meeting rail of the lower sash,
a sliding bolt in said casing, a lug in line with said casing and spaced from the same, said lug being formed integrally with the casing, a base plate secured to the lower meeting rail of the upper sash, he ring portions on said base plate at one edge thereof adjacent to the first mentioned meeting rail, a tapered link carried by said bearing portions, a laterally enlarged circular portion on sidlink at ifhe reduced end thereof and having a laterally extending axial aperture movement in the last named position.
2. A sash fastenereolnpi'ising an elongated easing with a base plate having end lugs for attachment thereof to the top rail of the lower sa'fsh of a window, said casing having a longitudinally disposed eentrellv located aperture therethrough and a communieating elongated slot in its well provided with a right angular portion at one end a'lug integral with the base plate, spaced from the casing and having'an aperlure alining with the aperture of the casing, a bolt slidhhle in the casing and having a handle projecting through the slot for shifting the bolt in the aperture to project the Silllt through the space and into the lug, a base plate ada ited for attachment to the top face of the lower rail of the upper sash of the window and having a pair a t-spaced a pertured lugs at its edge adjacent theother bolt being designed to he iimnuelly'shifted engngedor disand turned when moved to engaged positionsj In testimony whereof I ailix inv signature.-
in presence of two nitnesfies.
