Be it known that I, DANIEL GL-Asoow, a citizen of'the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, ave invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Brassieres; and I do hereby deelare-that'the foiliowlng'is a full, elea'r,'-and'exact descri tion'thereof.

My invention has for its ob 'ectto provide a simple, economical and e ective flexible brassiere to support, confine and reduce stout figures, the same being so constructed and arranged in the form of, oppositely disposed band elements as to be anchored midway and at'a low front point 'tothe corset chored point the band elements are upwardly wound in opposite directions to firmly bind the, body, strap ends of the bandsections being crossed over the back and brought to the front wheretjhey are-attached in any suitable manner. The brassiere thus aflixed causes a continuous draw upon all parts ofthe body that are confined, whereby the form of the wearer is rmly' bound to shapiz the'figure at all points without strain. has the fieshy parts of the body under'the arms,'the back and bust are firm'ly supported and restricted to prevent bulging at the lines or exposure above the corset, such bulging being apparent in stout figures under all normal conditions when the form is corseted in the usual manner. Specific objects of my invention are to shape the brassiere in such manner as to cause a bracing effect without restricting-the pliability of body movement,-this being due to the downwardly inclined crossed back stay portions of the bands which pass over the shoulders, bracing the back and compressin the shoulder blades.

Another important feature of my invention is the application of a reinforcing medium that extends from a central point under the arms in opposite directions to resist the extra strain that is placed upon the brassiere under ordinary conditions and to com press the parts most likely to bulge.

Still another important feature of my invention is the peculiarly designed upwardly curved under arm hip portion that extends from the front point of anchorage and is merged into downwardly inclined straps. Thus the upper cut at the waist-line under the arms permit freedom of the hips.

.wardly. It is With the above and other minor objects in view the invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts as set forth hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.

The pair of band sections extend from the front central point, as shown, and the lower edges of the band sections from said central point extend'upwardly and are merged into a curved portion 2 that sweeps under the arms and from thence downwardly to the back. This curved portion 2 thus forms an upper out to relieve hip pressure. The back of the curved edge Wis merged into a straight downwardly :inclined portion 3 to form the lower line of a strap 4. as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings,the reinforced fields assume their correct -positions relative to the shoulder blades, whereby the desired compression for forming a brace is efi'ected, while, at. the same time, the under arm. reinforcements will -eflectually resist the compression strain placed upon the bulging flesh of the wearer, which would otherwise extend above the upper line of the corset, as indicated in dotted lines.

From the foregoing description and -by referring to Figs. lto 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that when the brassiere is affixed to the body of the wearer it will draw from the frontpoint of anchorage in thedirection of the arrows, over the shoulders and under the armsand from thence downwardly in the direction of the arrows, as shown in Fig. 2, over the shoulderblades, the strap members crossing each other midway of the back, exerting a draw in the direction as indicated by sald arrows, forming a complete circuit from front to rear and from thence back to the front, at which pointvthe straps are secured by a buckle 8 or other means. Thus by the arrangement of attaching the straps at the front the waist or abdomen is under compressionand the straps will lap the lower V-shaped edge of the brassiere to firmly confine all parts and the article as awhole will have an effect .stantially straight,

similar to that of a bandage which will draw from the shoulders and compress the parts throughout its entirety, but will .p mit movement of the body, while at the same. time it will serve as a shoulder, brace.
