Description
A. J. FARRELL.
PAPER HOLDER.
APPLICATION man OCT-J8. 1916..
Patented June 12, 1917.
I INVENTOR THUR J. i=
ELL, 0F PITTSBURGH, FENNSFLVAN ER-HOLDER.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 18, 1916. serial Ito. 126,307.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, ARTHUR J. FARRELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper holders especially designed for holding rolls of toilet paper, and has for its object to provide a holder of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, with means that can be readily and quickly sprung into and out of engagement with theends of a roll of paper for suspending .or for removing the roll from the support to which the holder is attached, and further at the same time not interfering with the revolving of the roll of paper mounted in the holder when withdrawing the paper ofi the roll.
1 Further objects of the invention are to provide a toilet paper holder whlch 1s sunple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, eficient and convenlent in ts use,
readily attached to a support, and inexpenholder in accordance with this invention and further showing in dotted lines a roll of paper supported by the holder.
Fig. 2 is a like view of a modified form. Fig. 3 is a section on line 111--111, Fig. 2. Referring to Fi 1 of the drawings the holder consists o a yoke-shaped element formed from a length of cylindrical metallic stock and said element includes an intermediate portion 4, a pair of arms 5, 6, and a resilient coupling portion 7 interposed besaid intermediate portion 4. and said arms-- The resilient coupling portion 7 is formed by bending the stock in the form of a coil spring which is disposed horizontally and at right, angles with respect to the intermediate portion 4.
Each of the arms 5, 6, has its outer or free end bent inwardly at right angles with re spect to the arm as indicated at 8. The inner portion of the angular end 8 curves upwardly and terminates in a vertically disposed circular loop 9, the latter surrounds the inner terminus of said angular end 8. The circular loop 9 provides a bearing for one end of a hollow shaft or cylinder 10 of the paper roll 11. The angular ends 8 of the arms 5, 6, project toward each other.
The reference character 12 denotes a bracket for connecting the element to a support and the'bracket is formed with a pair of flanges 13 having openings for the passage of the intermediate portion 4. To arrest the shifting of said intermediate portion 4, in either direction, with respect to the bracket 12 a lug or enlargement 14 is provided centrally of the intermediate portion 4.
The resilient coupling portion 7 enables the arms 5, 6, to be sprung away from each other, or to permit of one arm being sprung away from the other, to provide for the mounting of a roll of paper in the holder or for the removal of the cylinder or shaft 10.
The construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is the same as that illustrated in Fig. 1, with this exception, that the resilient coupling portions'which are indicated at 15 are disposed vertically and not horizontally as shown in Fig. 1. Otherwise than that as stated the construction is the same and reference characters similar to that employed in Fig. 1 are used in connection with Figs. 2 and 3. What I claim is: y
A roll paper holder comprising a yokeshaped element including an intermediate portion and a pair of arms each having its free end bent inwardly at an angle, said angular end having its free terminus merg- Patented'dune T2, li ht.
ing into a, vertically disposeci eireuler loop fanning a continuation of the intermediate surrounding said inner terminus, sald loop port10n of the arm.
