Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 14, 1914. Serial No. 824,784.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES RosrAN WALTER, citizen of the United States, residing at Fredericktown, in the county of Knox and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Block-Molding Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in block-molding machines, and the object is to provide a mold box which is pivotally mounted upon the frame of the machine so.
that the box is capable of an oscillatory movement, the pivotal connection of the box being so located that when the box is swung to a position for the molding operation, the box will be maintained in its proper position without the necessity of using latches or other locking means for holding the box, and as the material is placed in the box, the weight of the material will cause the box to be more firmly held against movement.
The ramming of the concrete or material for the purpose of packing it within the box will also cause the box to be held more rigidly in position.
A further object is the provision of an cecentric or cam for changing the position of the pivotal bearing of the mold box, and
which eccentric or cam is capable of adjustment in its housing longitudinally thereof.
Another object is in the provision of means for adjustably supporting the face plate and for maintaining the face plate in a level or true position.
The invention consists in certain other novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.

A represents the base, and B the stationary side member, which is connected to the base by means of bolts 1. Housings 2 are connected to the base, and extending from the housing are rods 3, 3, which are connected to the side member for maintaining the side member in a vertical position.
A movable side member C is provided with trunnions 4, which are journaled eccentrically in disks 5, 5. These disks are mounted in bearings 2, and are capable of a longitudinal movement therein, set screws 6, 6 governing the position of the eccentric disks in the housing. The said disks are capable of rotating within the housing for changing the position of the side member, that is, the rotation of the disks changes the axis of movement of the side member. The side member C is provided with a plurality of vertical rows of slots 7, 7, and brackets 8, 8 are provided with lugs 9, 9, which extend through the orifices 7 Passing through the openings in the lugs are pins 10 for fastening the brackets to the side member. These pins 10 are provided with screw threaded openings with which the hand wheels 11 have screw-threaded engagement, the hand wheels having the screw threadedends thereof bearing against the member C for locking the bracket against movement. The face plate 12 is removably connected to the brackets 8, and the hand wheels 11 adjust the position of the face plate by imparting -movement to the brackets. When the hand wheels 11 are turned in one direction the upper ends or portions of the brackets 8 which engage the side member 0 are permitted to move outwardly allowing the brackets 8 to be lowered or to sag, and when the hand wheels are turned in an opposite direction the upper ends of the back portion of the brackets 8 will be drawn toward the side member C, causing the brackets 8 to be raised. This raising and lowering of the brackets 8 permits of adjustment of the face plate 12 to cause it to be positioned in the proper hori= zontal plane.
The face plate is provided at its ends with openings 18, 13, in which lugs 14 of the end members 15 are received. Stops 18, 18 connected to the stationary member B engage the upper ends of the end members 15 for holding them against outward movement during the filling and forming operation. These stops are adjustable longitudinally of the stationary member, sothat when different-sized face plates are provided, the stops can be arranged upon the stationary member to suit the length of block to be formed.
Interposed between the end plates movable side member is a pallet 16. The pallet is mounted on the brackets 8. Adjustable foot rests 17 are connected to brackets 8, in which the lower edge of the pallet is received so that the pallet can be moved to a position that it will properly engage an edge of the face plate.
WVhen the block is to be molded, the proper length face plate, and pallet, and the proper width end members are provided, and are assembled upon the movable member. The eccentric disks are then adjusted so that when the movable side member is thrown to a vertical osition that the end members and face pla e will engage the, inner surface of the stationary member B for forming the moldbox lhe mold box has, the pivot located at one side thereof, so that the box is caused to move toward the stationary side member, and as the box is filled withmaterial for forming the block, it will assume a firmer position.

2. In a molding machine, the combination of a frame having a stationary and a movable side member, said movable side memher having a plurality of openings therein, brackets adjustably supported on the movable side member and having lugs thereon adapted to be received in the openings, pins engaging the lugs for holding the brackets in their adjusted position, means carried by the pins and adapted to be forced into engagement with the movable member for adjusting the brackets for governing the angle of the brackets with respect to the movable side member, and a pallet, face plate and end members supported on said brackets.
3. In a moldino machine, the combination with a frame, of a movable side member supported thereon, brackets mounted on the side member, a pallet, face plate, andend members mounted on the brackets, bars pivoted to the side member, and means on'the side member for operating the bars to cause them to engage and force the pallet into engage the pallet to force it into contact with the face plate and end members.

In a molding machine, the combination with a frame, of a stationary and a movable member, eccentric bearings mounted on the frame, said movable member journaled in said bearings, means for laterally adjusting the position of said eccentric bearing, brackets removably supported on the movable member, and a pallet, face plate and end members carried by the brackets.

In a molding machine, the combination with a frame, of a movable member journaled thereon, a face-plate, pallet and end members carried by the member, hinged means mounted on the movable member, and means for forcing the hinged means against the pallet to cause the pallet to be held in contact with the end members.

In a molding machine, the combination of a frame having a stationary and movable side member, brackets mounted on the movable side member, a pallet and face plate supported on said brackets, end members connected to the face plate at one edge, and adjustable stops carried by the stationary side member and adapted to extend across the opposite edge of the end members, whereby the end members are braced at their upper edges against lateral movement.
