Be it known that I, LESTER H'. through the shaft 3G. is a pin 36 which works in a slot 36 formed in a projection on the insulating arm 35 so that the contact finger 34 need not move to the full extent of movement of the shaft 36.
At 42 is a battery which is connected by a wire 43 with the contact 32 by a wire 44 with the timer 45. This timer is connected by a wire 4G with the contact 29 and by a wire 47 with the contact 3l. Moreover a testing circuit is employed which includes the wire 48, circuitI closer 49 and bell 50, the circuit extending between the wires 43 and 47.
.Depending from the armatures 39 is an arm- 51 which carries at its lower end a pivot pin 52 movable in a slot 53 in a link 54 provided at its other' end with a shorter slot 55. A pin 56 passes through `the slot 55 and serves to connectthe link 54 with the arm or bar 22. At the bottom of the casing is an car 57 whereon is pivotally mounted an arm 58 which is connected at its upper end to the pin 52. Surrounding the arm and normally urgingthe arm 51 to onerextreme position or the other, is a coil spring In the operation of the device when the timer mechanism so operates as to throw the wire 46 into connection with ythe wire 44 then the circuit will be established through the magnets 2*. The result ot this will be to draw down the parts to the position shownin full lines in Figs. 2 and 4. lf however the, wire 47 be connected by the operation of the timer mechanism then the magnets 26 will be energized. rlChis will cause the attraction of the left hand armature in Fig. 2 by the poles 41 of the left hand magnet with the consequence that these will be drawn down. rThus the bar 22 will be swung to the position "shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4 and 'wili be forced to extreme position bythe operation oi the spring 59, since as soon as the pin 52 passes to the right of the center line between the shaft 36 and the shaft (i0, which forms the pivot of the arm 58 on ear 57, t ie tendency oi' the spring will be to constantly move the link farther to the right. At the same time the contact 34 will move to the right and break the circuit thus throwing the battery out of circuit. lf now the timer mechanism vagain operates to energize the right hand magnet 25 then the same operation will take place with a tendency to 'throw the bar 22 into the notch 19. However, if the bar can not be-thrown into the notch by 'reason ol this notch not being in exact position, then the linl. 54 will only move to such position that the pin 52 is slightly to the lett of the line connecting the shafts .36 and G0. Yet, when the notch docs arrive at the correct position the action of the spring' 59 will complete the action of the magnetic means naeaaae and force the arm 22 fully inward thus locking` the shafts 13 and 14 from relative movement.
There has thus been provided a simple i member having a notch therein, alever piv-l otally supported in the said 'casing and adapted to engage said notch, a plurality of electromagnets, a link connecting the said lever and the armatures of said magnets, means to control the energizing of said magnets to move. said links andresilient means for completing the movement of said links.
' 2. ln combination with a lock casing, a member slidable therethrough and having a notch therein, a lever adapted to engage said notch when the latter is in a predetergli mined position, a plurality of electro-magnets, a link connecting said lever and the armatures of said magnet, means to control the movement of said armatures to move the lever toward the aforementioned slidable member and resilient means for completing the movement of the said lever when the notch in the said slidable member reaches a predetermined position.
3. The combination with a lock casing or' a n'iember slidable therethrough, the said member having a notch therein, means to engage said notch to lock the said slidable member, means yto move the said last mentioned means, and means to complete the movement of the notch engaging means to move it into the notch in the said slidable member when v the said notch arrives in alinement therewith.
