To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VICTOR SroLL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Tools, of which the following is a full, clear, and ex act description.
This invention relates to dental tools using retaining devices for casts and devices for the teeth to be added to a group or series already placed. The said invention consists in the construction and combination of devices hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
I will now proceed to describe my inven tion in detail, the essential features of which will be summarized in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof; wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of one embodiment of my invention, partly in section;

Fig. 10 illustrates a modified form of means to engage the wax base of the group or set of teeth to be treated; and
Fig. 11 is a plan view illustrating a supporting box and plate carried thereby.
As herein embodied, my invention consists of a base portion 15 of any desired configuration, carrying a vertical post 16 for supporting the positioning device 17. The positioning device 17 comprises a horizontally disposed beam or arm 18 carrying a clamping element consisting of a blocl: 19, having an opening 20 therethrough, and a set-screw 21. The block 19 supports a vertical post 22 provided at its lower end with detail plan paralleling a chuck 23 to engage and removably retain a mandrel 24. The post 22 is further provided with a transverse opening or slot 25 :0 slidably receive a transversely adjustable beam or caliper-arm 26. To the beam or caliper-arm 26, I slidably secure a block 27 carrying a chuck 28 for a mandrel 29, si1ni lar to the mandrel 24. These two vertical mandrels 22 and 29 are the paralleling rods of the mechanism. The block 27 is secured in adjusted positions by a set-screw 30. To secure the horizontal arm 18 to the vertical post 16, I employ a clamp consisting of a split block 31 through which the rod 16 freely passes (see Figs. 4 and 5) one member of the block 31 being recessed at 32 (see Fi 5) to receive the rod 18, said rod being flattened at 33 to prevent the rotation there of. The rod 18 passes through an opening 34 in block 35, carrying a threaded spindle 36, said spindle passing through the split portion of the clamp-member or block 31. (See Fig. 5). To secure the block 01 and arm 18, in any position upon the vertical post 16, the wing-nut 37 will be operated to draw the members of the split portion of the block 31 together, at the same time drawing the rod or arm 18 against the block 31. The positioning element 17 can be moved and fastened in any vertical position on the post 16, as well as in any radial position. The rod 22 can be moved or adjusted vertically and held by the set-screw 21. It can also be rotatably adjusted and held by said setscrew 21. The caliper-arm 26 can be adjusted transversely of the aXis of the vertical rod 22 and held by the set-screw 38. The block 27, carrying the chuck 28 for the mandrel 29, can be adjusted longitudinally of the caliper-arm 26 and held by the set screw 30. By the adjusting devices set forth above the interval between the paralleling rods 22 and 29 may be readily increased or diminished as required. Should I desire to fit teeth in the space 39 in a cast 40 (Fig. 3) I would apply to the back of said set a layer of wax 41. To secure the set of teeth in position upon the upper surface 42 of the base 15, I provide same with recesses 43, into which some of the waX will be forced when pressure is applied to the set of teeth. This downward pressure will force some of the Wax into the recesses 43, thereby forming projections'or teats 44 (Fig. 1) which will act to hold the mass against movement during the box positioning operation. Furthermore, the mass can be removed and again accurately positioned. Instead of employing the recesses 43, I may employ pins 15 (Fig. 10) which will "form recesses in the layer of wax 11. After having positioned the set of teeth, or before, I apply to the carriers 16 on the mandrels 2 1 and 29 (see Figs. 6 and 7), the boxes or supports 17 for the plates 4:8 to which the added teeth are secured. The boxes are slipped onto the carriers 46, as will be evident. Fig. 1 illustrates a box 47 mounted on its carrier. Ihe boxes 4:7, as is obvious, are split tubes having wings. The cylindrical portion of the box receives the cylindrical portion 4-9 of? the plates 48 as shown in Fig. 11.
After the boxes are placed on the carriers, the positioning device is adj ustcd vertically and radially and the beam 26 or block 27 is also adjusted transversely to position the boxes carried by the mandrels in place against the teeth selected to support them.- lVhen properly positioned, the boxes will be secured to the teeth by wax and the mandrels and carriers raised to clear the boxes, which are of course left on the teeth. After the mandrels are withdrawn, the plates 18 are placed in the boxes and the artificial teeth secured thereto. Should I desire to position but one box, the-caliper-arm 26 can be removed.
By means of my improved positioning device, I am able to position the axes of the. boxes 47 in an accurate vertical plane and in parallelism with each other.
While the boxes 47 are carried by the teeth of the cast, the artificial teeth are applied to the plates carried by the box and fitted in the space 39. As the cast is an exact reproduction of the mouth, the fitted teeth plates 4L7 secured thereto and the boxes on the plates, will be removed from the cast and placed in the mouth for final securement while in this assembled condition.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a dental tool, in combination with a vertical post a non-rotary horizontal arm adjustably secured to said post and vertical paralleling rods adj ustably connected to said horizontal arm for varying the interval between said rods.
2. In a dental tool, an arm and a pair of pa 'alleling rods, one of which is adjustable toward or from the other on said arm, in combination with means for suspending said arm and rods and means for adjusting the position of said rods vertically, horizontally and to various angles in a horizontal plane, for insuring the accurate presentation of what is carried by said paralleling rods.
3. In a dental tool, a retainer for a cast, a vertical post supported over the same for vertical adjustment, it being also provided with means for its horizontal adjustment about a fixed point of support, a horizontal arm slidable through said post and provided with means for clamping said arms at any point of such adjustment, a device slidable on said bar and adapted to be clamped at any desired point, said post and device each carrying a paralleling rod.
41:. In a dental tool, a pair of transversely slotted paralleling devices, in combination with an arm slidable through the slots of said devices, clamping means operating on said arm to hold said devices at any desired interval from each other, and means for supporting said arm and paralleling devices for the purpose set forth.
5. In a dental tool, a pair of paralleling devices, in combination with an arm, means for adjusting the interval between said de vices on said arm, and means for supporting said arm and paralleling devices and adjusting them to any required position over a cast.
