PETER SOLAINI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
rammen nay i, reir.
Application filed December 27, 1916. Serial No. 139,137.
To cZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, Pn'rnn SOLAINI, a subject or3 the King of Italy, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Lock, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in locks and in the particular form show'n I have combined both a locking bolt and a latch bolt, the same being arranged in a novel manner as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows the invention as applied to the inside of a door and door casing, certain parts being removed to show the inmrior arrangement, said view being partly in section on the line 1-1 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 2 is a view of the reverse side of certain parts shown in Fig. l, said parts being in a different position and partly in section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, with certain parts removed, the parts illustrated heing shown in a different position.
F ig. 4 is an edge view of the door with the lock thereon.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a detail View.
1 represents a door. 2 represents a cas 4.- represents the casing of what l may term the strike or keeper. 5 represents a locking bolt which is pivoted within the casing 2i and which has a curved endia which operates as the bolt proper. tie-G are fixed abutmcnts within the keeper housing 4. Wvhen the lock bolt is turned. to the position shown `in Fig. 3, the door is unlocked. iVhcn, however, the lock bolt is turned to the position shown in Fig. 1, the door is locked, the bolt end 5n being swung` around so as to project into the keeper and around the ahntroents (3 6. The end of the bolt 5a is. by preference sullicicntly long so that it will project back into a cavity in the lock casing as shown in Fig. 1 when the door is locked thereby adding greatly to security. 0bviously this bolt is ei'ective when applied either to a swinging door or a sliding door. lWhen applied to a swinging door the lock may also be provided with a latch bolt 7, which is suitably mounted in thelock casing instance the' latch ,bolt 7 is mounted to i'ecij'n'ocaieaiul is norinally'pmat the back of the lock casing which is connected by a stem 10 to the rear end of the latch bolt 'i' so that the latch holt may be retracted by pulling back the finger piece 9 to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2. 1l is a` knob at the inner side of the lock case 3, the same being directly connected in any suitable manner to the swinging dead bolt 5, so that when the knob is turned the said dead bolt will be correspondingly turned to the locked or the unlocked position. This knob 11 has a tubular shank 12. Projecting into the opposite end of the tubular shank 12 is a stem 14 which is mounted at the inner end of the .usual plug 4portion 15 of a pin cylinder lock, whereby vyieldinglvmounted on the end or" the plug 15 so that it may enter the sleeve 1.2. Without binding. The inner end of the sleeve 12 is cutaway at one side as best seen in Figs. 16 is a pin carried by the stem 111 and standing in the out away portion of the sleeve 12the cut away portion being'sufiicient to permit the stern 14 to be turned freely to a limited extent Without turning the sleeve 12, for the purpose hereinafter described. The stein 1.4 may have a series ofholes'to receive the pin 16 so that .the lock may be applied to doors of diierent thicknesses, the cylinder lock beingjmade suitably adjustable. lf the door were thicker than that indicated in Fig. 5, the cylinder lock would be adjusted thereto .and the pin 16 would be screwed into the proper hole in the stern 14- so as to position the pin 16 in the cut awayv portionv of the'sleeve 12. 17 is a roll back mounted on the sleeve 12. This roll back faces up with a shoulder 18 on the tail of the latch. 19 is a spring that may be located in the lower part of the casing 3 and which may frictionally engage a shoulder' 5b on thel 4hooked arm 5a of the dead boit in its retracted position, (see Fig. 2) and which 1:1 h ,j l #e salici kaepexz', and menus for inde- @d sy 2;.
