Be it known that I, Ronnu'r L. Mcllnuor, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful .improvements in lfVrenches, of which the following isa specification.

This invention relates to the general class of tools, and more for use with automobile curtains.

'lhe main object of the present invention a tool adapted for usewith of the type having grolnets coi'perating with buttons secured to an automobile body to attach such automobile curtain to such automobile body, by the curtain is, when necessary, quickly stretched into place so that the buttons can readily pass through the gromets and be turned to properly attach the curtain.

A. particular feature of the present invention is a tool which can be readily manipulated both to function as a lever, similar to a button shoe-hook, so as to position a gromet of a curtain over a button of an, automobile body and thereupon to be manipucurtain down so that the gromet can, with facility, be passed over the button and the button thereupon turned to attach the thereto connected portion of the curtain in place. l

Still another feature of the invention is the provision of a cam which will afford a ulcrum perch to permit one side of the tool in one step of the operation and thereupon permit the other side of the tool to be swung away from the curtain in a succeeding step of the operation.

These and other features,rcapabilities and advantages of the present improvement will more fully appear from the subjoined detail description of one specific embodiment thereof, in wl1ich- Figure l is an edge view of my improved combination tool.

Fig. 2 is a side or face view thereof.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmental side View of the wrench portion thereof.

Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are fragmental views illustrating diagrammatically a button of an automobile body, a part of the curtain to be attached, and thc wrench in successive positions in the operation of such wrench.

provided having at one end a wrench W and at the other end an enlargment E which may Serve as the handle when using the wrench W, and which is furthernun-e formed into a combination tool having a conformation 11 for use as a bottle opener, conformations 12, 13 and 14 corresponding to various size end wrenches to serve as such, a conformation 15 for use as a scraper, and a conformation 16 for use as an alligator wrench. Obviously, when any of the conformatons 11 to 16 are used, the end W of the shank S would be used as the handle.

The part of the shank S approaching the wrench W is provided with a curved portion 17 comparatively slender to form a fulcrum zone hereinafter to be described. The convox surface 18 of the curved portion 17 terminates in a comparatively sharp turn forming the outwardly extending face 19, while the concave surface 20 terminates in a comparatively gradually curved convex face 21, (see Figs. 2 and 3). The side portions of the shank S at the end W terminate in jaws 23suitably spaced from one another and eX- tending beyond a cam surface substantially concave in contour, and comprising essentially an outer' side face 25, usually slightly curved, as shown. at a right 'angle to the face 26 of the jaws 23, which are adjacent to the face 19, and an opposing side 27 of substantially the curved contour shown, which forms the inner side of the lip 28 of which the face 19 forms the outer side. The edges 26 are comparatively straight as compared to the other two edges 29 of the jaws 23 which are continuations of the gradually curving face 21 of the shank S,

The wrench W just described is intended especially for use with the buttons of automobile bodies which coperate with gromets of an automobile curtain to attach an automobile curtain to an automobile body.

In Figs. 4, 5 and-6, successive lpositions the Wrench W in -the course of its operation are diagrammatically shown, together with an automobile body and curtain being To the body 30 of the automobile, a bearing 31 is'suitafbly secured to which is pivotally connected the button 32 which is rather narrow in thickness, as shown in Fig. 6, as compared to its width, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.

he .gromet 33 of the automobile curtain 34 is 'of the usual construction, somewhat narrower in width than the width of the button 32A so that vwhen the button 32 is turned into the position shown in Fig. 6, the curtain 34 will be securely attached in place.

'The operation of the wrench W is as follows: The Wrench W is passed through the gromet 33. of the curtain 3ft so that the gromet is disposed on the curved portion `17 of the shank S, as shown in Fig. 4, thereupon the jaws 23 of the wrench W are moved into engagement with the button 32 so that the faces 25 and 27 of the cam of such wrench will come into contact with the buttons; then the wrench W is moved in the direction of the arrow 35 (Fig. 4) until the wrench W occupies the position indicated by the dotted lines 36; thereupon the Wrench W and the therewith `engaged button are rotated a full 180 degrees, the curved portion 17 of the shank S turning around in the gromet 33; thereupon the wrench W is depressed to the position shown in Fig. 5, in which position the curtain 34 may readily be pressed down over the bearing 31; and thereupon the button 32 turned 90 degrees to the position shown in Fig.- 6 where it securely locks the curtain 34 to the body 30. As shown in Fig. 5, when the wrench has lbeen turned to the position shown in such figure, 'by the pressure' of the operators ngers at the point 37, the curtain Si may, with facility, be pressed over thebear-l ing 31. When the curtain has been pressed onto the bearing 31, the button 32 may he turned either by the operators fingers or by the turning ofthe wrench W.

It will, of course, be'understood that various changes and modications may he made to the details of construction without departing from the general spirit or scope of the invention.

I claim:

An implement for drawing a groinet over a rotatable, button and for thereafter rotating the button comprising a shank, a head adapted to pass through the grolnet secured to one end of said shank and extending heyond one sido thereof, the head and shank being so shaped that their outer surfaces merge to form an unbroken curved surface, said head being recessed in the plane of the shank vto form spaced Walls for engaging the parailelsides of said button, and a third wall forming a lip winch extends from and merges into the side of said shank.
