Description
NITED STATES.
WILLIAM H. STORY, OF FLATBUSH, NEW YORK. 4
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLD-S F OR SEWER-PIPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,076, dated December 19, 1871.
To all whom it inay concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. STORY, of
,Flatbush, county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain Improvement in Molds for Forming Sewer-Pipe, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invent-ion is to strengthen the arch of the sewer-pipe while leaving the junction of the pieces exposed to view, so that the foreman in charge of the work may see that the contact of the pieces is perfect before the cement is applied, sealing the joints, and also that the pipe may be lowered directly into its place without the trouble of socketing the pieces after they are lowered.
Figure 1 shows the pipe as laid for use. i Fig. 2 is a section of the mold of a pipe of twelve inches diameter.
a is the base-plate. bis the core. a is the case. (I is the annular collar used in finishing the upper end of the pipe. 0 is the top or cover. Fig. 3 is a crosssect-i-on of Fig. 2?
This invention consists of an improvement in a sectional mold of iron, the case of which admits of being opened lengthwise by dividing in two parts, so constructed as to form a band, A, Fig. 1, over the arch of the pipe, at one end of each piece, as laid, strengthening the arch when in use, and showing the joint of the pipes at B in contact. The height of the cement used to seal the junction of the pieces is shown by a dotted 'line. The said band A projects at the under or lower side, forming a lip on which to rest the adjoining piece after the piece is lowered into its I place, thus giving an increased facility for laying the sewer.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the core b and ring dwith the case 0, constructed as described to form the irregularly-shaped band, as shown, for-the purpose herein set forth.
WM. H. STORY.
