Description
PATENT QEFIGE.
JOSEPH H. HUGHS AND ABSALOM HUGHS, OF WAUTOMA, WISCONSIN.
IMPRCVEMENT IN COW-BELL STRAPS.
Specification forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 122,020, dated December 19, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. HUeHs and ABSALOM HUGHS, of Wautoma, in the county of Washara and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Cow-Bell Strap; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication.
This invention relates to improvements in the construction of metal straps for suspending cowbells from the necks of animals; and it consists in making an elliptically'shaped strap of two pieces of thin metal bent into semi-elliptical form and joined at the inner axis by hinging one end of each and connecting the other ends by a staple on one passing through a slot on the other, all as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a front elevation of iny improved strap. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing the application to the animal; and Fig. 3 is a section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
We take two long strips of sheet-metal, A B,
and bend them into the semi elliptical forms shown in Fig. 1, so that, when joined at the ends, they will form an elliptical band joined at the minor axis. These pieces we hinge together at C, so that the two may be opened and closed at the other ends for applying to and removing from the necks of the animals. The other ends are connected by a staple, D, on one, passing through a slot on the other, and fastened by a spring-pin, E, connected to one of the pieces and arranged so that the tension keeps it inv place.
lf required, a padlock may be attached to the staple for locking the two parts together.
This arrangement is very simple and cheap, and the joints are so placed that the projections or shoulders thereof cannot chafe the neck.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The two hinged metal strips A B overlapping at the sides and provided with slot and staple respectively thereon, to form an easily-fastened and detachable strap for cow-bells.
JOSEPH H. HUGHS. ABSALOM HUGHS.
