UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WESLEY FRITTS, OF FLANDERS, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, WESLEY FRITTS, of Flanders, in the county of Morris and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain Improved Churn- Power; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved churn-power, the line a c, Fig. 1, indicating the plane of section. Fig. 2is an end elevation of the same.
Similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new churn-power, which is intended to reduce the labor of churning by permitting it to be performed in a most convenient position of the operator. tion consists principally in the combination of a vibrating frame, which is worked by the hands and feet of the operator with a pitman and crankshaft, the operator being seated while at work.
A in the drawing represents the main frame of my improved churn-power. B is a seat formed stationary on the frame for the operator to sit upon. 0 is a walking-beam pivoted to a post, a, of the frame A, and connected at one end with A pend ent arm, I), of the beam is, by a pitman, d, connected with a crank, e, of a fly-wheel,f, which is mounted upon a short shaft, D, hung in the frame A. The shaft D is, by suitable gearing y, con- Theinvent nected with another shaft, E, on which a crank, h, is formed. By means of a pitman or rod, 2', the crank his connected with the lower end of a frame, F. This frame consists of two vertical side bars, j j, of a top cross-piece, l, and a bottom cross-piece, n, and is provided with projecting gudgeons 0 0 near the middle of its side bars. By these gudgeons it is pivoted to and between the posts a and p of the frame A. The pitman z connects with the lower cross-piece n of the frame F. The latter is so situated with respect to the seat B that a person occupying the seat will be able to reach the bar l with the upper and the cross-bar n with the lower extremities, and to vibrate the frame F by means of hands and feet. The motion is transmitted from the frame F to the beam 0 and thence to the dash.
It is evident that this power is easy to operate. WVhen desired only the hands alone or the feet alone can be used on it. i
The beam 0 may also be connected with other mechanism than a churn-dash, and, when desired,
the pitman cl may be directly connected with a saw or other tool.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire t6 secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the vibrating frame F, which has the upper and lower cross-pieces l n with the seat B, pitman i, and driving-shaft E, substantially as herein shown and described.
WESLEY FRITTS.
