Be it known that I, Bnrr'rox VEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Insoles, of which the following is a full,- clear. concise, and exact description, reference being had "to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to insoles.

'One of the objects of my invention is to provide an improved impressionable absorbent and ventilated insole. Inthe drawings, 1n 'whlch an embodiment any suitable manner as by glue. The material is rigid enough to support the foot,

indicated at '13, if the weight is equally distributed, but so weak that it will be crushed to accommodate any. irregularities or projections on the foot of the wearer, as indicatedat 14. 1 p

' I have found that straw-boardis suitable for this purpose. Furthermore, the straw-board is absorbent and the corrugations of the intermediate layer provide for thorough ventilation. For binding the edges of the layers of straw=boardupper and lower flexible sheets 15 and 16 may be used which may be of paper or other suit able material secured'to the upper and lower layers of straw-board, respectively, in any suitable manner 'as by gluing or. pasting; the edges of the lower layer being bent up over the edges of the layers of straw-board and turned in-as indicated at 17, and the upper layer bein pasted or glued down on top of this turne in edge.

' This paper binding does not interfere materially with i the. ventilation between the straw-board layers, ,as the air readily finds ts way through the'pores of thepaper bindmg. p

In use this insole accommodates itself to all irregularities in the vshape of the foot.

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:'

1; An impressionable, absorbent insole comprising upper, lower and intermediate sole-shaped layers of strawboard, said upper and lower layers-being fiat, said intermediate layer being provided .with alternate elevations and depresssions' secured to said upper and lower layers, respectively, said material being rigid enough to support the, foot without being crushed if the weight is equally distributed, but weak enough so that it may be crushed and permanently "set to accommodate irregularities in the foot of the wearer.-

2;- An impressionable, absorbent insole comprising upper, lower and intermediate ,sole-shaped layers of straw-board, said upper and lower layersbeing flat, said intermediate layer being corrugated and secured to both upper and lower layers, said material being rigid enough to support the foot without being crushed if the weight is equally distributed, but weak enough so that it may be crushed and permanently set to accommodate irregularities in the foot of.
