The sleeve 21 is maintained within the spect to the outer end of the shaft,13' by means of a screw 24 whose head is disposed within the sleeve 21, and whose threaded ortion extendsthrough the opening at the "1116! end thereof, and fixedly engages the internal screw-threads rovided within the reduced end of the sha t 13. The operation of my improved club is for the most part obvious. Attention, however, is directed to the fact that when it is desired to make a change in the angle or position of the head relative to the shaftyit merely be comes necessary to unscrew the locking sleeve 21 from its engagement with the outer threaded end of the shaft 13, andthen draw said sleeve 21 outwardlyuntil the inner end? thereof engages with the under side of the head of the screw 24 when thefurther movement of said sleeve'will be arrested. Here- .upon, the head 11 is drawn outwardl upon the shaft, as far as it will go, when t e lon- 'gitudinal recesses20 at the inner end thereof will have become disengaged from the longitudinal projections 14 on the conical member 14,- and thus adjusted to any esired position. When the desired adjustment has effected the head 11 is again forced inwardly-as f :r as it will go,.and the locking sleeve 21 again screwed home upon the reduced end of the shaft 13, whereby the head 11 willbe rigidly secured in its adjusted position.

It will be noted that by -reason of the novel construction of'the inner end of the head 11 and the cooperating shoulder 12 and 'conical member 14 on'the shaft. 13, a rigid .head 11 and in operative relation with re fit will be insured atsaid point, and that such fit will be insured without regard to the number of times that the head 11 has been adjusted upon its shaft owing to the fact that'theconical member 14 has a slight rmit of the head 11 being taper which will serve to take up wear as the same occurs. By reason of the flang' tfi at the inner end of thehead 11. receiving and snuglyinclosing the shoulder portion '12 at the lower end of the shank 10, all

possibility of foreign matter or fluid entermg said head will be prevented, and all possibility of the parts becoming rusted or otherwise unduly secured together wholly precluded.

Further it is to be noted that if the head 11 is adjusted to the osition A, as indicated by broken lines at used in making a stymie shot, and that as the head is'three-faced, and all of said faces provided with lon 'tudinal grooves 11., each face has its uses spending upon the choice of the player.

Having thus described my said invention,

A golf elub comprising a shank. a shaft extending therefrom. a head mounted upon said shaft. holding means arranged partly upon said shaft and partly upon said head for holding said head to its adjusted position upon said shaft. said head being longitudinally movable with respect to said shaft whereby it may be moved outwardly with respect thereto to render said holdingme ans inoperative. longitudinally-movable means operativelv assoeiated with said shaft and said head and serving when in its innermost position to hold said head against movement relatively to said shaft. and when in its outermost position to limit the outward movement of said head with respeet to said shaft. and means for limiting the outward movement of said longitmlinally-movable means. substantially as speeified.

A golf elub eomprising a shank. a shaft extending therefrom. a shoulder upon the end of said shank. a tapering member seeured to said shaft adjaeent to said shoulder but separated therefrom. radial projeetions upon said member. a head mounted upon said shaft. reeesses upon the inner end of said head adapted to engage with the. radial projeetions on said taperin nember for holding said head to its ad usted position upon said shaft: said shaft having its outer end redueed and sermv-threaded. and a sleeve member limgitudiwilly-movable within said head and seeured to the end of said shaft and adapted to engage-with the-end of said shaft aml with the end of said head. whereby to seeure said head to its adjusted position upon said shaft. substantially as speeified.
