A\nother object is to provide a device for attaclmient to the side rail ot-a bed which includee means for detaehably holding" the vertical standard or support of a table.
' Other object." and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
ln the drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of a portion of a bed rail. lahowing my inventionapplied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-'-2 of Fig. 'i i Fig. 3 is a perspective View ofthe removed from the rail.
'Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, represents a fragment of one ot' the side rails o'f an iron or other metal bed, with which my invention is particularly adapted for use. 4
The attachment. includes an angle member having the two wings or arms 11 and. 12 extending' at right angles to each other. At the extremity of the arm 1() is formed a downwardly and inwardly extending hook 13 which is adapted to be engaged with the inner edge of the upper portion of the rail clamp ofthe bed. Pivotally connected to the lower end of the other arm 12 is a right angular Specification of Letters Patenti.
Patented Mal'. 13, T917. Serial No. 83,111.)
metal membel 14 which is adapted to be swung under the lower edge ot the other or vertical member ot' the. side rail of the bed. This member v4l is held in the position just described by n cans ot a spring 15 located at its pii'ot. The other end ot' the member 14 is provided with a tingerpiece 1li which is adapted to be grasped to swing thc member out ot' engagement with thc .rail when thc device is to be removed thereffonnorapplied thereto. Formcd at the" upper 'end' of the arm 12 is a .':ocket l? in which ia received the vertical standard 18 carrying on its n'p per end a table or tray 19. Formed transversely in the intermediate portion' of the arm l1 is an ini erted channel disposed a wheil 21 mounted on a shaft 22 which has its ands journaled in the side walls of the channel.
In applying the device'to a bed rail, the 'hinged member 14 is swung-downwardly and then the hook member 13 engaged with the inner edge of the impervhorizontal portion ot' the rail. The device, is then swung downwardly mail the vertical portion 12 rests against the outer face of the vertical portion ot' the be;l rail, when the member 14 may be released and permitted to engage with the, lower eige ot' the, vertical portion of the rail.
It. will be noted that the lower portion of the wheel 21 extei da in which is slightly below the lower sfr face ot' the horizontal portion 11 of the clamp, whereby the said clam) is elevated slightly above the upper face o the mii and permitted to here adily moved along the rail to'any position desired. l
To remove the device from the bed rail it is only necessarvto swing the memberilfi out ot engagemeni. with the vertical ot the .rail and tlcn rock the whole clamp. upwardly and inwardly so as to` disengage the hook 13.4
lVhat is claimed is:
An attachment :for an iron bed rail cornprising an L-shaped member. arranged 'to engage the outer iaces of the vertical and horizontal portiers of thc bed rail, the
outer end' of the l1 orizontal portion of the L-shaped member having 9o portion a f downwardly embracing relation wltlr'the outer edge of the horizontal portion of the rail, a stundnrd receiving Socket member formed on the vertical portion of the- L-slmped member, and n sprjng pressed L-shaped member pivotniiy carried by the lower end of the vertical portion of the first nnmed'- L- .shaped member for embracing engagement-
