To all 'u1/wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, MERRILL rMooRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Creston, in the county of Union and State of lowa, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Molding Concrete Slabs or Blocks, of which the vfollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to moldsforf producing concrete slabs or building blocks and is especially designedy to provide a mold which may be readily assembled into a suitable series of molds, and the removable parts easilyand quickly disassembled-to remove therefrom the molded products.
The prime object ofl my inventionis to provide a simple, economical, durable, and thoroughly efficient device for producing a concrete slab or block having embedded therein a metal reinforcement which also serves `as a means for tying or bonding the said slabs or blocks together.
Another object of this invention is to mold or cast a series of concrete slabs or blocks on end at the same time, `lin a single structure, which includes a'series or any suitable or desirable number of-molds combined together and lirmly secured-'so that 'the Aentirel series of molds may be handled as a unitary device. f
A further object of the inventionV is to provide a novel device -which will form building slabs of uniform thickness at their central or body portion and'- at each side thereof will be formed a reduced'eXtension of only one half the thickness of said central or body portion, each-slab or block having embedded cross-wise therein in an inclined position, two reinforcing rods, each rod having a loop or eye formed at either end thereof and terminating within the reduced extended portion at each side of the block.-- Y f* A stil-1 further object-j of the invention is to provide a 'simplel device constituting a series of molds secured together by means which hold the reinforcing rods in the slabs in their proper position,` said means'passing through each slab and each loop or veye forming apartof the reinforcement, thereby forming a hole through the slab at four different points, through which holes bolts or pins are used for fastening the slabs together during the process of constructing a building with the Said slabs.
The foregoing and such other objects as -may appear 'from the ensuing description are attained by lthe novel features of construction, combination, arrangement and location of the parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, andpparticularly pointed out in the claimsv'appended hereto, it being understood `that-slight changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of the construction may be resorted to; without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
4In the accompanying drawings it will be seen that Figure 1,-is a perspective view showing lthe' improvcd'de-vice embodying my invention, l l
" Fig. 2, is a plan view ofthe same.
Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional'view,taken on the line n n/,Fig l.
Fig. 4, is a sectional elevation of the same, taken on the lineJ b-b, Fig. 2.
Fig. 5, is a perspective view showing a series of the slabs with means for tying or binding th'emtogether shown by dotted lines.
' Similar'numerals of reference are employed todesignate corresponding parts `throughout theseveral figures of the draw- 1n s.
n carrying out my invention as illustratedand which shows a preferred construction, Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 show a series off three molds united together in a single structure, but it will be understood that any suitable number. of molds may be assembled together, which may be-readily handled by the manipulator of the molding process.
Having reference to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a plate of sheet metal secured in `a .vertical position forming one end of the mold structure, 2 is a corresponding plate secured in a ver-ticalposition forming or constituting the other end of the structure, while 3 and L designate division or partition plates, all of said plates being of the same material, positioned vertically, and secured at any suitable distance apart dependent upon the thickness of the slab it is desired to mold.
Rigidly secured between the vertical plates, at a point near the outer edge or side portion V-tllereof is a vertical sheet metal member 5, forming one of the side walls of Vertical side Walls secured to said plates, chamber, forming a hole in the slab, and each side Wall consisting of two lateral eX- clamping the mold elements together, said tensions and two upright Walls at a right rods serving to support a plurality of rein- 10 angle to said lateral extensions adapted to forcing rods Within each mold, and means 5 form extended molding chambers, a plufor securing the rods at each yend thereof.
rality of rods passing through the said Vertical plates and through part of the molding MERRILL MOORE.
