l c it known that l, llAltRY ()Glum, a citizen of the lhiitcd States, residing at Yestbourne. in the county of Campbell and State of 'lennessce, have invented new and useful Improvements in 'lorpedwtatchers and Milie-Destroyers, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention relates to llllDl'OVQlllQlltS in torpedo catchers and mine destroyers for war ships, one objec of the invention being to provide an improved torpedo net arranged around the vessel and means to raise and lower the torpedo net as rerpiired; another objectbeing; to provide a mine destroying: apparatus which may be arranged at the bow of the vessel and employed for destroying mines" ahead of the vessel and which mine destroyer may also be renioved trom the vessel's how when desired.

A torpedo net 8 is stretched along the sides and across the stern of the vessel and has its upper side attached to the arms; of the brackets 2 as at 9 and has its front ends attached to the frames 6 as at 10. The. torpedo catching net is here shown as made of chains. It may, however, he made of any suitable material.
Rods 11 are arranged intermediate the brackets 2 and are bolted to the sides of the vessel as at 12. Hoisting links 18 are pivotally connected to said rods as at la and their outer ends are pivotally. connected to the upper side of the net at points between Hoisting means, suchtor stance as winches 15, are provided on the vessel and hoisting ropes 17 are attached to the outer ends of the links and also to the hoisting means and enable the netting to he raised or lowered as desired.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of construction and of the method of operatio'n will-he readily a pparentto those skilled in the art to which above the upper deck iii the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the device together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the append ed claim.
Having described the claimed is: v
