LISSA E..CHRISTIE, OF OS KALOOSA, IOWA.
SEWING-MACHINE FOLDING DROP-POCKET.
To all evhom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, LISSA E. CHRISTIE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Oskaloosa, in the county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sewing-MaEhine Folding Drop-Pockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved folding drop pocket or bag especially adapted to be attached to the table of a sewing machine at a point in rear of the feed plate and to receive the work as it slides rearwardly over the table top, while being sewed, and prevent the work from dropping to the floor and being soiled thereby or from being soiled or injured by the treadle, the object of the invention being to provide an improved devlce of kind which is cheap and simple 1n constructlon, which is very strong and durable, which maybe readily opened.
and closed, and which may be readily attached to a sewing machine table. j The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed. In the accompanying drawings:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view'of a fold-- ing drop pocket or bag constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention, showing the same adjusted to a sewing machine table.
Fig. 2- is a plan of the same in closed position.
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view of the same, on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Fi .2.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a folding drop pocket or bag 1 which may be made of cloth orof any suitable fabric or material and which may be of any suitable size. The mouth of the pocket or bag is provided with a frame 2 which comprises a pair of flat bars 3, 4 and pairs of links 5 which connect said bars together at their ends. The bar 3 is wider than the bar 4 and is provided near its outer edge with openings 6 for the reception of screws 7 wherewith to attach said bar to the table 8 of a sewing machine, near the rear edge ofthe table and at apoint in rear of the feed plate, presser foot and needle. The links 5 are pivotally connected to the bars 3, 4 by pivots 9 and are pivotally connected together at their outer ends by pivots Specification ofLetters Patent.
with openings 11 and the sides of the fold- 1ng drop pocket or bag are securedat their upper edges, at the mouth of the bag, to the Patented Feb. 20,1917.
Application filedMarch 31,,1916. Serial No. 88,067. I k 7 I10. The bars. and the links are provided and hold the same at the rear side of the sewing machine table and depending there from. V J
A hook 13 is pivotally mounted on the bar 3 as at 14 and. the bar 4 has an eye 15 for engagement by the hook, to enable the frame and mouth of the pocket or bag to be secured in a closed position, as shown in Fig. 2. Any sultalole fastener may be used for this purpose.
By the provision of my. improved folding drop pocket or bag and the arrangement of the same on the rear side of a sewing ma chine table, thepocket or bag serves toreceive the work as the latter is sewed and passes rearwardly over the sewing machine table and to prevent the work from dropping to the floor or upon the treadle and become soiled or injured.
It will be understood that my improved folding drop pocket is for the purpose of along under the presser foot and needle, and
naturally drops to the floor, and is soiled or injured unobserved and unguarded. l/Vith the folding drop pocket attached to the machine, all fear of soiling or injury to the material is eliminated. The pocket inplace, is ready to catch the work. It is always clean from dust, from the fact that it folds together when not in use but opens at will by the touch of a little clip or spring when needed to be open for use. -No small degree of pleasure is experienced in having one on your machine because you know that yourwork is protected at all times. This makes the device valuable. The device may be readily attached to a sewing machine table'by means of small screws, as hereinbefore stated.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is 2- A folding drop pocket made of flexible material and provided at the mouth with a frame comprising a pair of bars and pairs of links pivotally connected together and to the bars, said bars and links being attached to and extending around the pocket at the mouth one of said bars also serving for the attachment of the pocket or bag to the top or table of a sewing machine and said links being arranged to extend outwardly from with each other and means to secure the i bars togethe' and thereby lock the frame in closed position.
In testimony'whereof I allix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
