G. A. KIMBALL.
COAT HANGER.

GRACE A. KIMBALL, 0F ADAMSVILLE, RHODE ISLAND.
COAT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters. Patent.
Patented Feb. fi, llWlt'.
Application filed July 15, 1915. Serial No. 39,938.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRACE A. KIMBALL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Adamsville, in the county of Newport and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coat-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to coat hangers, and the object of my invention is to provide a nest of coat hangers, comprising a series of individual hangers adjustably mounted in reference to each other; together with such elements and combinations as are hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View.
Fig. 2 is a section along the lines, X-X, on Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
It is often convenient to have hangers for coats, shirt waists and other articles of apparel so that several of them may be hung up at a time, and in order to accomplish this with the greatest economy of space and in a simple and inexpensive manner, I have provided a bracket, D, made up of the wires, A, B, which are arranged parallel to each other, forming a runway or slideway for the hangers, E, F, and G, and then twist/ed together beginning at C, 0, their ends formed into a hook, II. On the slideway portion of the bracket I place the hangers, E, F, and G, each of which is composed of two sections, 6, e, f, f and g, g, respectively. Each section is made up of wires, one end of each of which is formed into a loop, J, which is threaded on one of the wires, A, B. The wires are bent at K and again at L, and then extended in a sloping direction to the end where they are spread and curved or cupped as at M, forming a support for the shoulder of the sleeve of a garment placed thereon. When these sections forming the flopiea of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the hanger are placed in position on the wires, A, B, the Wires of one of the sections intermesh with those of the other sections, so that the Wires at one section are threaded on the wire, A, and rest, when in position, on the wire, B, while the wires of the other section are threaded on the wire, B, and rest on the wire, A, and one of the wires forming the last mentioned section is placed between the wires forming the other section.
It is apparent that the sections may be rotated so that the sections forming a hanger may be raised and caused to approach each other and be brought together, and therefore the bracket with the hangers on it may be packed and transported easily. The hangers may be slipped lengthwise of the Wires, A, B, as desired.
I call my whole apparatus a nest of hangers.
My invention may be constructed at little cost and by its use coats, shirt waists and similar articles may be hung up and put away without taking up much room.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A nest of coat hangers, comprising two wires arranged throughout a portion of their length parallel to each other, forming a slideway for the hangers, and then twisted together; with a hook secured at the ends of the twisted portions, adjusted about midway between the ends of the parallel portions and spaced therefrom; and a series of adjustable hangers adapted to be folded together, each hanger comprising two sections, each section threaded upon one of said wires and resting, when in operative position, upon the other of said wires, and each section provided at its end with a curved portion adapted to fit in the shoulder of. a garment.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GRACE A. KIMBALL.
