To all whom t may concer/n Be it known that I, CARLOS C. RATHBURN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westwood, in the county of Lassen yand State of California., have invented new and useful Improvements in Motor-Adjusting Bases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to motor-adjusting bases, the object in view being to provide means whereby the base of a motor, and particularly an electric motor, may be adjusted for the purpose of properly lining up the driving belt so that it will run properly and accurately on the driving pulley.
To the above end, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as herein described, illustrated and claimed.

In carrying out the present invention, I employ a plurality of adjusting members, two of such members being shown and each consisting of a metal strap l having the opposite extremities thereof bent upwardly as shown at 2, theends of the strapy being recurved and extended downwardly with a threaded opening 4 in which is placed a set screw 5.- It is to be understood that each of the bars lis constructed similarly at both ends so that it embodies two adjusting screws 5.
The bars or irons 1 are ordinarily arranged in parallel relation to each other as shown in Fig. 1 and are Ifastened by bolts 6 to a bed 7 which may consist of a wooden block or the equivalent thereof. While the screws 6 are shown as of the lag screw type,
this is not essential to the invention as any means may be emplo ed for fastening the members 1 to the bed Each of the bars 1 is formed adjacent to vthe endsthereof with openings 8 shown in the upstanding Shanks 9 of bolts, the heads 10 of vwhich underlie the bars/1 and are received in housings 11 elongated in thedirection of length of the respective bar 1, each housing 11 being only of suiicient width to receive the head 10 of the bolt so as to prevent said bolt from turning when the clamping nut 12 is turned thereon. Each'housing 11 is shown as providedwith earsl by means, of which it is secured to the bottom 'I face of the bar 1 by suitable fasteners 14.
A designates generally a motor base provided with the usual fastening lugs 15. The base A is placed upon the supporting and adjusting base of this invention so that the bolts 9 extend upwardly through the lugs 15. The set screws 5 are then tightened until they bear against the lugs 15 and if the motor base is not in perfect line so that the drivingbelt will be retained thereon, the adjusting or set screws 5 areV loosened and tightened so .as to partially turn the base A until the motor is brought into the correct position to retain the belt on the pulley thereof. By the means described, a very fine adjustment may be obtained so -as to secure the best results. Having thus described my invention, I claim The combinationwith a bed, of a plurality of bars adapted to support the base of a motor, said bars having angular end portions, adjusting screws threaded through said end portions, and base clamping bolts extending upwardly from said bars and adjustable longitudinally thereof, said bars being provided with longitudinal slots to admit of the shifting of said clamping bolts, and housings located beneath the slots in said bars and elongated in .the direction of length of the slots, YNthe heads of the clamping bolts being received in said housings and being prevented from turning thereby.
