PICTURE HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED HOV. I3. I9l5.

Application led November 13, 1915.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL WILLIAM ARTHUR HOERNEGEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Point Roberts, in the county of Whatcom and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Picture-Hangers of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hangers for pictures or the like which may be easily applied to the article for the hanging thereof.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a hanger which may be concealed in its entirety behind the picture to be hung, moreover, obviating the use of cord or wire.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hanger whereby the picture may be supported with the desired angularity, the parts of the hanger being concealed behind the picture, making the picture sightly and adding to the appearance of the room in which a number of pictures are to be hung.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features in the arrangement of parts, and in certain parts improvements, and combinations as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim. v
In the drawing, Figure l is a rear elevation of the hanger the parts being assembled and arranged on a picture. Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof in use. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on line 3 3 in Fig. 2.
In the drawing 1 designates a fiat plate which may be made of any suitable material and riveted or secured to the plate 1, in any other-manner is an elongated vertical member 2. Adjustably correlated to the vertical member 2, is a supplemental member 3, each member having an elongated slot to accommodate some suitable fastener, whereby the members may be securely held in any aoljusted position. As shown the fastener consists of a bolt 4, and a nut 5. The supplemental member 3 is provided at its free end with an angular extension 6 for a purpose hereinafter explained.
Iiingedly mounted at opposite sides of the plate 1, for horizontal swinging movement Specification of Letters Patent.

are sectional arms 7 each arm comprising two . members 8, and 9, the member S being hinged to the plate l as at 10, and the meniber 9 is adjustably correlated with the arm 8. Each of the members S, and 9 have an elongated slot to accommodate fasteners 11, whereby the arms may be increased or diminished in length. Each member 9 is notched to provide a bill 12 for a purpose presently to be described.
The picture to be hung and which is designated by the numeral 13, is provided at opposite sides with screw eyes 14, or the like, which are intended to receive the bills 12 of the members 9 after the hanger as a whole has been positioned on a wall, this being accomplished by driving a nail or the like after which the hanger may be positioned, the plate l being provided with a keyhole opening 5 for that purpose. The arms 7 by reason of their hinged connection with the plate 1 permits the plate to be moved toward or away from the picture, to permit the latter to be hung at different inclinations upon the wall. The picture besides being supported by the adjustable arms 7 is supported at its lower edge by the eX- tension 6 of the supplemental member 3 which, as hereinabove mentioned is adjustably correlated to the vertical member 2.
From the foregoing description it will be evident that pictures of dierent dimensions may be hung and that the hanger in its entirety may be concealed behind the picture adding to the appearance when pendent, moreover, owing to the adjustable nature of the arms 7 the picture may be given the desired angularity.
The arrangement of parts shown and described is the preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is to be understood as covering all other variations in structure and arrangement which are within the scope of the claim.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a picture frame, of eyes secured to the opposed sides of the frame at the rear thereof, a plate provided with a key-hole slot adjacent one edge thereof, arms hingedly connected to the plate at opposed sides ther movement, a third arm depending from the lower edge of the plate, said arms including a relatively adjustable section7 the said adjustable sections of the first mentioned-arms terminating in hooks for engagement with said eyes, and the adjustab Copies of this patent may be o le Section 0f Said KARL WILLIAM ARTHUR HOERNEGEL.
