UNCOUPLING DEVICE FOR COUPLINGS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY Vrssnnmc, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State f Illinois, have invented certain new and useful lmprovei'nents n Uncoupling Devices for Couplings, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to devices for operating car coupler locks, and more particularly to improvements in the uncoupling levers commonly used in connection with automatic and other car couplers, and has special reference to the provision of an improved type of that class of device which is operable from one side of the car to which it is applied.
The principal objects of my invention are the provision of an improved device characterized as above noted, which will readily accommodate itself to coupling pins of different locations relatively to the mounting of the operating lever, and a device so char acterized which is thus accommodative as well longitudinally as laterally. and to the movement of the draw bar both longitudinally and laterally; the provision of an improved device wherein the operating lever and the cooperating connecting link are separable or otherwise disengageable to the cnd, first, that should either part become broken or so extensixely bent in service that replacement of either part is required the discarding of the entire lock operating device will not be necessitated, and, second, one wherein the connecting link may be used with other types of operating levers already applied to cars without requiring the demouuting, or discarding of an entire device in order to utilize and gain the advantages of my im n'ovenieuts; the provision of an improved connecting link which is most readily to be applied to coupling levers For their repair, and equally readily detachable, and one which will not however become accidentalh detached in service; the provision of an improved type of support adapted for use with the operating levers: together with such additional objects as may be hereinbelow disclosed.
In the attainment of the objects above mentioned, and in overcoming the disadvantages suggested, and in gaining certain further benefits which will hereinafter appear,
I have provided the constructions illust ated in the-accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a side elevational view of one embodiment of my improved form of link; and Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of a modified form of my improved link.
I have illustrated my link as connecting an eye 21 at the end of the operating lever to an eye 18 on the end of the coupler pin. The form of link shown in Fi 1 con'iprises two members 4-1 and 42 provided with hooks t3 and M respectively, engaging the eyes 21 andlh, and having a flexible joint by means of the eyes 45 and 46 which should preterably be centrally located as shown in order to prevent flexion and opening, or flexion and cramping ot' the device in operation. The device of Fig. Q-is similar to that of Fig. 1 save that where it is desirable to avoid any fiexion of the parts 41 and 42 relatively to each other, such parts are made integrally rather than, provided with the flexible convection indicated at 45 and h").

1. ln locking combination, a coupler having a device. a lever for operating said locking device, a. disengagcablc connection between said lever and locking device. and a spring on said connection requiring com pression before said lever and said locking device car. he disengaged whcrelr accidental disengagement of said connection is prevented.
