HANGER FOR STORM-WINDOWS.

Be it known that we, HENRY B. BARDEN and CLIFFORD A. BARDEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Vvallingford, in
the county of Rutland and State of Vermont, have invented new and useful Im" provements in Hangers for Storm-Windows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hangers for storm windows and the like and has for its object to provide a strong, cheap and durable hanger by means of which storm windows may be quickly attached and detached without requiring the use of tools, said hanger being so constructed that it will hold the sash firmly against the window casing when the same is locked in place.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hanger constructed and arranged to protect the connecting portions of the fixed and movable portions thereof from the weather. 1
The invention consists in the comb-ination and arrangement of par-ts set forth in thefollowing specification and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of one of the hangers embodying my invention, said hanger being shown in connection with a portion of a window casing and a window sash. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout both views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 3 represents a portion of one corner of a window casing and 4 a portion of one corner of a storm window.
5 is one of a pair of hangers by means of which the storm window? 4 is secured to the casing 3, but as both of said hangers for said window are identical in construction but one of said hangers has been shown in the drawings.
The hanger 5 embodies in its construction a fixed member 6 which is secured to the casing 3 and a movable member 7 secured to the window 4:. The fixed member 6 is formed preferably of sheet metal and consists of a base plate 8 of any suitable design having holes 9 formed therein to receive screws 10 which extend through said base plate into the wood of the casing 8. Formed upon the base plate and prefera y in g al therewith is a pair of opp ed outward and upwardly curved ledges 11, said ledges being turned preferably inwardly from side members 12.
In addition to the ledges 11 and side members 12 the fixed member 6 also has an outward and downwardly curved member 13 arranged above the ledges 11 in connection with the side members 12 and constituting a hood which entirely covers the ledges 11' and protects them from the weather. The lower edge 14: of said hood is disposed at a greater distance from the inner face 15 of the base plate 8 than are the upper edges 16 of the ledges 11 and the edge 14 and upper edges 16 are placed at a substantial distance apart in order to form a slot 17 The movable member 7 is likewise preferably formed of sheet metal with a plate 18 adapted to be secured to the frame of. the
storm window 4 by screws 19, 19. From the l plate 18 the movable member 7 extends upwardly at an angle to said plate and terminates at its upper end in oppositely disposed lateral projections 20, 20, which extend outwardly and are adapted to engage and rest upper portion of said movable member contiguous to the projections 20 is preferably arranged parallel with the plate 18 and con sequently rests 'fiatwise against the upper ends of the ledges 11 when the storm window is in place, as will be seen by reference to Fig. 2.
In unhanging the storm window suspended by means of the hangers, hereinbefore specifically described, said window must first be swung outwardly from the position illustrated in Fig. 2 and then slightly upwardly to that indicated in dotted lines in said figure until the lower edges 22 of the projections 20 are clear of the upper edges 16 of the ledges 11, whereupon said projections and the movable member 7 will be permitted to be withdrawn through the slot 17 in the face of the fixed member 6. In hanging the window the operation is just the reverse, that is to say, the upper end of the movable member 7 is inserted through base plate above said supporting members and protruding therebeyond, said hood being constructed'and arranged to protect said supporting members from the weather, and amovable' member having oppositely disposed projections constructed and arranged to engage and rest upon the supporting members on said fixed member.

A device of the class described having, in combination, a fixed member having a base plate formed of sheet material, a pair of opposed ledges formed integral withsaid base, plate, a hood formed integral with said base plate above said ledges and protruding therebeyond, said hood being constructed and arranged to protect said ledges from the weather, and a movable member having oppositely disposed projections constructed and arranged to engage and rest upon the ledges formed on said fixed member.
3. A device of the class described having,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for in combination, a fixed member having a base plate formed of sheet material, a pair of opposed outwardly and upwardly curved ledges formed integral with said base plate, an outward and downwardly curved hood formed integral with said base plate above said ledges and protruding therebeyond, said hood being constructed and arranged to protect said ledges from the weather, and a movable member constructed of sheet material and having outward oppositely disposed projections at the upper end thereof adapted to engage and rest upon said ledges.
4. A device of the class described having, in combination, a fixed member having a base formed of sheet material, a pair of opposed outward and upwardly curved ledges formed integral with said base, an outward and downwardly curved hood formed intogral with said base above said ledges, said hood being constructed and arranged to protect said ledges from the weather, the upper edges of said ledges terminating at a distance from the lower edge of said hood and forming a transverse slot in said fixed member, and a movable member constructed of sheet material and having outward oppositely disposed projections at the upper end thereof adapted to be inserted through said slot and to rest upon said ledges.
