CHRISTIAN GrfiRLITZ, 0F ALTONA-OTTENSEN, GERMANY.
JOINERS BENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 211, 1916.
Application filed. October 27, 1914. Serial No. 868,866.
ToaZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN GoRLrrz, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Altona-0ttensen, Germany, have invented a new and useful Joiners Bench,of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a joiners bench which can be mounted upon tables or the like.
The novelty of this bench consists of the two cramps or clamping parts of such a new construction that these parts can be used upon the well known table-bench-board for all works or purposes of the joiner. Essentially these parts can be used as a horizontal cramp or clamping device which hitherto was not possible by only using the two clamping parts of the known joiners benches for tables.
In the accompanying drawing a form of construction of the invention is represented.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view on a reduced scale of the bench board made of wood which can be mounted upon a table. Figs. 2 and 3 show perspective views of the two cramps or clamping parts essentially already well known but the construction of which is partly a new one. Fig. 4 shows a perspective view of a third part which can be used. for greater security of the clamping device. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view of a part of the oiners bench with the two above mentioned clamping parts mounted to act as a horizontal clampin device with addition of the third (security part.
The wooden board a is provided with the known vertical round holes a and horizontal holes a Furthermore the board has a horizontal metal-plate a with a vertical hole a which is not wholly round but provided with plane inner surfaces a The front side of the board a has furthermore two vertical metal plates a with openings (1, which have plane sidewalls a All holes or openings of the board a have the same diameter with the exception of the holes in the plates a and a. A little vertical hole a crosses the horizontal hole a". The clamping bolt 6 (Fig. 2) has a round crosssection of such a diameter as to fit into any of the holes a or a Thereby the head Z2 of the bolt touches the top surface of the board a. The under half of this clamping bolt has planes 6 so that if the bolt is mounted in any of the holes a or (.17 in the plates a or a, respectively, the upper half of the bolt protrudes as shown in Fig. 5 above the board a. Furthermore the two opposite planes 5 prohibit the turning of the bolt. Through the lower end is a hole 6 The head 6 of the bolt has a ribbed plane 5 and a bore 6* of not wholly round cross-section with two plane inner surfaces 6 The clamping screw spindle c has a bolt (Z of the same diameter as the holes a but which is furthermore provided with planes (Z opposite each other. The spindle 0 has a turnable head 0 ribbed upon its outer surface 0 The other end of the spindle is provided with a handle or lever 0 The spindle can be screwed into the nut (Z forming the head of bolt (Z. The bolt 6 Fig. 4:, has an under part of round cross-section e fitting into any of the holes or bores a (but not into the bores a or (4 At the upper end is a ring 6 The two clamping parts 6 and (Z can be inserted in any of the openings (1 and a but in order to construct the horizontal cramp according to Fig. 5 the bolt d is inserted into the bore 6 and the under end of bolt 5 is inserted into the oppning a" of plate a and pin 7 is inserted into the corresponding holes a and 12 Now the two parts 6 and (Z are ready as horizontal clamping devices of the kind shown in Fig. 5. In order to increase the stability of this device the bolt 6 can be used as shown in Fig. 5. For this purpose the under end 6 is inserted into one of the holes a stands upon the side surface of the board a and the ring 6 surrounds the free end of bolt (Z thus serving as an abutment. Hitherto the bolts Z; and (Z could not be used as such a horizontal clamping device. In order to enable this new use, the bolt 6 is now provided with the hole Z2 with two planes 6 and with two planes b the bore 6 and the pin 7. The table board a is for the same purpose provided with the plate a with opening a with planes a Furthermore the not wholly round hole and the correspondingly formed shaft with planes (Z of bolt cZ are novel.
I claim:
A joiners bench for use upon tables or the like comprising in combination a wooden board with a plurality of horizontal and vertical holes and having at its ends plates having not wholly round openings with plane sides respectively and a hole crossing one of the first mentioned openings,
The foot 0 then a bolt having at its lower end planes fitting into one of said openings and a not Wholly round hole arranged parallel to said latter planes, a spindle with cramping foot and handle and a bolt having planes fitting the planes of one of the first mentioned openings, a pin adapted to engage With one of the holes first mentioned and that in the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents 7 bolt, a bolt adapted to'serve for an abutment for the free end of the first mentioned 11 bolt and having a foot fitting into any hori zontal hole.
