Description

NICHOLAS KENNEY. Improvement in Look for Spool Holdxer's,
No.'-1 20,563. Patenteid oct 3 1 -1871 Fig.1. J
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron.
NICHOLAS KENNY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND FRED-- ERIOK A. KEERSPEEDT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOCKS FOR SPOOL-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,563, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, NICHOLAS KENNY, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Spool-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a spool-holder, in which the spindle upon which the spool revolves may be locked so that the spool cannot be removed except by the aid of a key, the ob ject being to prevent employs in factories from stealing spools of silk or thread.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a spool-holder with my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a section of one prong thereof with the look.
A represents a spool-holder of any suitable shape, having two prongs, between which the spool is to be placed. B is the spindle, which passes clear through one of the prongs and into but not throu gh the other prong. A hole is bored in the prong, through which the spindle passes, perpendicular to the spindle hole, and in this hole is placed a screw, a, which can be worked by a key. When this screw presses on the spindle the latter is held fast; but when the screw is drawn out a short distance the spindle is eleased so that it can be pulled out for remoi ing the spool.
Various other forms of look to be operated by a key might be applied for holding the spindle, but this I consider the simplest.
, The idea is for the foreman of the factory to have the key, and none of the employs can then get at the spools without his knowledge.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A spool-holder, having a suitable device for locking the spindle, upon which the spool revolves, so that the spool cannot be removed except by the aid of a key, as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
