In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the button head 1 is provided with an integral tubular stem 2, the upper portion of which is enlarged to provide an interior shoulder The lower edge of the stem 2 is provided with an out-turned flange 4:. In this form, the thimble is located within and coaxial of the stem 2', in which respect the button difiers structurally but not operatively from that shown in the preceding thimble is located coexteriorly of the stem. In Fig. 4, the hollow thimble 5 is of less diameter than the lower portion of the stem 2 to provide an annular space 10 between the thimble and the stem, and the upper part of the thimble is enlarged to form an annular shoulder 5 which fits snugly into the corresponding shoulder 3' formed in the upper portion of the stem 2. As manufactured and sold to the trade, the thimble 5 projects beyond the flange 4 on the stem and is adapted to be turned up by the means described in connection with the form of button shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to form a flange 6 when the button is applied to the fabric. It will be noted that the gripping action between the parts of the button and fabric is similar in all respects to that shown in the and the button is applied therein shown.

While the invention has been illustrated and described as applied to buttons, it is obvious that it is likewise applicable to other types of fastening devices, and in this re spect, the button is to be regarded merely as exemplary.
What I claim is 1. A fastening device comprising inner and outer telescopic tubular memb an annular clamping space for the fabric to which the device is secured.
