FRANK. H. KEITH, OF J'OLIET, ILLINOIS.
LOCK FOR ELECTRIC SWITCHES.
Application filed August 12, 1915. Serial No. 45,158.
To alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKH. KEITH, a
citizen of the United States of America,-
- switch.
Afurther object of the invention is to provide a casing of this nature which is so constructed that the same can be attached to the coil box in a manner so that the same cannot be removed therefrom.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a casing of this nature having combined therewith a lock barrel which necessitates the use of a certain key, whereby the barrel cannot be actuated to operate the vation of the casing.
and key barrel, the
switch until the proper serted therein.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which 5- Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view through the casing, showing the same attached to the coil'box. Fig. 2 is a side ele- Fig. 3 isv a vertical view through the casing switch not being shown.
through the easat right key has been incentral sectional Fig. 4 is a sectional view ing', similar to Fig. 3, but taken angles thereto. Fig. 5 is a rear view of attaching plate. Fig. 6 is a front view of the switch actuating disk. Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 8 is a vertical sectional view through the attaching plate and front wall of the coil box, showing one of the peers in its operative position, and the other in its inoperative position.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates the coil box, which is of the conventional form, and is supported by the dash board of the automobile in the usual manner, and has Specification of Letters letent.

fixed to its front wall the switch casing 2, and in which is mounted the usual switch mechanism 3. The protective casing 4 is of such size that the same can be placed over the switch casing 2, and is provided with enlarged portions '5 ets 6 formed therein for engagement by the which serve to hold the'casing 4: in place. When it is desired to apply the casing 4, the coils are removed from the box 1, after which the front wall thereof is bored so that the screwsv '1 can pass therethrough and enter the sockets 6. Before the screws 7 are applied, the arcuate plate having threaded sock 8 is placed against the inner surface of the front wall of the box; said plate being provided with struck-out ears 9, whereby o ehings 10 are provided for the entrance 0 the screws 6, the heads of which being too large to pass through said openings. After the screws 7 are properly placed, the ears 9 are bent against the headsthereof, thereby, concealing the screws.
The inner surface of the front wall of the casing 4 is provided with an annular flange 11, which forms in conjunction with the barrel 12 an annular recess 13, and into which is pouredBabbitt'metal, which servesto hold said barrel rigidly in place. Rotatably mounted in the barrel 12 is a key barrel 14, the inner end thereto a disk 15, said disk having its outer of which has fixed face provided witlhspaced lugs 16, which are adapted to engage mechanism 3 so that when the key barrel 14 is rotated the switch mechanism will be similarly cuit through the coils, as desired. The key barrel is constructed in the usual manner and is adapted to contain tumblers which can be actuated only by an-especially made key, and since the key barrel is of a well known make, a detail description of the same is not. thought (necessary.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a protective casing has been provided which can be easily and quickly placed over the usual switch casing of a coil box, and when in place thereon the lugs 16 will interlock with the usual switch mechanism 3 so that when the disk is 1'0- A locking attachment for winged switch the usual switch actuated to operr'or close the cirmechanism comprising, a cover adapted to he positioned over the winged switch mechanism, said cover having a central opening an(l a depending flange surrounding the opening, a barrel positioned in the central opening and having flanges engaging the outer surface of the cover for holding the barrel in )osition in said opening, a key barrel Within the first mentioned barrel, means carried by the key barrel and engaging the winged switch mechanism for imparting rotary movement thereto, and means engaging the flange and first mentioned harrel for securing the barrels in position. i In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK H. KEITH.
