Description

O. KUNKEL.
LISTER PLOW ADJUSTER. APPLICATION FILED nEc.2o. |915.
, 1,199,576. Patentedsept. 26,1916.
INVENTUH OSCAR KUNKEL, 0F KRESS, TEXAS.
LISTER-PLOW` ADJ' USTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patent-.ea sept. 2c, 1916.
Application led December 20, 1915. Serial No. 67,725.
To all vrL1/0m 'it may concern Be 1t known that I, OSCAR KUNKEL, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Kress,
in the county of Swisher and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lister-Plow Adjusters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to new and useful improvements in lister plow adjusters.
In two row listers a pair of plows are mounted on a crank-axle and levers are provided for adjusting the axle whereby the plows are raised and lowered, but no provision is made for adjusting the plows laterally. In relisting it is desirable to shift the plows laterally to follow the contour of the beds.
It is therefore the object of this invention t0 provide an attachment which may be secured to a row lister and by the manipulation of which the plows may be shifted or adjusted laterally and the rows closely followed.
Another feature resides in the provision of a bracket adapted to be bolted to the lister frame and having a lever pivoted thereon provided with a plunger for engaging a segment on the bracket, and also being pivotally connected at its lower end with opposed rods having provision at their outer ends for attachment to the plows.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described that will be strong, durable and eflicient, and simple to construct and attach, also one in which the several part-s will not be likely to get out of working order.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention has relation to certain novel features of construction and operation, an example of which is described in the following specification and illustrated in the aocompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a lister, the main features of the invention and associated parts being shown in full lines and the remainder in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a partial longitudinal vertical sectional view of the lister with the parts shown as in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the attachment, and Fig. 4 is a detail of the eye plate and component parts.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the frame of a lister, 2 the ground Wheels,
and 3 the lever supporting bars, all of said parts being shown in dotted lines as they are not elements of the invention. The ground wheels 2 support a crank axle 4 which is adjusted in the usual way. Clamp boxes 5 are mounted on the axle and also secured to the beams of the plows 6. The axle is free to rock in the boxes and some means is provided for holding the boxes against lateral displacement on the axle. All parts described to this point are of common construction and form no particular part of my invention but are used in combination therewith.
In applying my attachment the means for holding the boxes 5 against-lateral movement on the axle are either removed or made inoperative. A bracket 7 having angular ends is placed between the bars 3 transversely of the frame 1 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The ends of the bracket are bolted or otherwise secured to the bars 3. A vertical lever 8 is pivoted on the rear side of the bracket so as to swing transversely of the frame 1. A locking segment 9 is provided on the bracket in front of the lever and the latter has suitable means for engaging the segment and locking it in its adjusted position.
The lower end of the lever hangs below the bracket and carries a pivot bolt 13 passing through the holes 12 of the flattened ends 11 of a pair of rods 10. By means of vthe holes 12 the rods may be relatively lengthened or shortened. Each rod terminates at its outer end in an eye 14 which engages the hole 15 of an eye-plate or ear 16. Each eye-plate is fastened on one of the bolts 17 of the clamp box 5 with which the plate is connected.
It is apparent that by shifting the lever S the plows are shifted and may be made to follow the contour of the rows; also that the plows may be held in any adjusted position. It is pointed out that the divergent rods 10 swing the plows in unison and their function is not to swing the plows toward or from each other, but to practically retain the relative spacing of the plows while swinging them in unison and equi-distantly. In relisting it is highly desirable to exactly follow the beds and this attachment will enable the driver to perform function readily and easily.
The invention is presented as including bracket constructed for attachment to the all such modification and alterations as frame of the lister, a Vertical lever pivoted l0 properly come Within the scope of the apon the bracket, opposed rods adjustably pivpended claim. oted to the lever below the bracket, and eye- 5 What I claim, is: plates pivoted on the outer ends of the rods The combination with the crank-axle, and attached to the clamp boxes. clamp boxes mounted to slide on the axle, In testimony Whereoil I aflix my signature. 15 and plows attached to the boxes; of a OSCAR KUNKEL.
