To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES E. VoKns, a subject of the Kingof Great Britain, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gap Shaping and Ventilating Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a device for shaping and ventilating caps, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device for insertion within an ordinary cap worn by a man or boy, for maintaining theshape of the front of the cap and eliminating the liability of the breaking of the vizo-r of the cap.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device as specified, which is constructed of sheet celluloid, or analogous resilient material and has a main body portion shaped to conform to the vizor of the cap and a plurality of upwardly extending arcuate spaced fingers formed upon the forward edge of the body and shaped to conform to the shape of the front portion of the body of the cap.

\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view through the improved cap shaping and ventilating device showing the same positioned within a cap. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cap shaping and ventilating device.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates the body of the cap shaping and ventilating device whlch 1s crescent shaped, and is of a size to conform to the vizor of the cap in which it is to be mounted. The body 1 is preferably formed of sheet celluloid, or analogous resilient metal, and it has a plurality of tongues or tines 2 formed thereon and extending upwardly Specification of Letters Patent.

and rearwardly therefrom. The tines or tongues 2 are curved, to conform to the shape of the cap in which they are to be mounted, and for supporting the front portion of the cap which is positioned over the vizor of the same in its normal position for preventing the collapsing or disfiguration of the front portion of the cap. short tongues 3 are formed upon the convex or forward edge of the body 1 and are spaced intermediate the tines or tongues 2. The tongues 3 are upturned, and provide in connection with the tongues 2, a continuous iupturned marginal edge about the outer or convex edge of the crescent shaped body 1.

The tongues 3 which are positioned at the ends of the convex edge of the body 1, are bent downwardly as is shown at 4, to provide eyes for receiving pins for attaching the improved cap shaping and ventilating device to the interior of the cap for preventing the accidental removal of the same. The spacing of the tongues or tines 2, will permit of the ventilation of the interior of the cap in that they will raise the upper forward portion of the cap body, and the cap body being made of cloth will permit air to pass therethrough and through the spaces between the tines.

In constructing the cap shaping and ventilating device, it is preferable to make it of celluloid, hard rubber, or analogous material, so that the angles or curves of the tongues or tines 2 may be varied as desired. \Vhen it is desired to vary the curves or angles of the tongues or tines 2, it would be necessary to place the device in hot water, for softening the same after which the tongues or tines 2 could be bent into the desired shape, in which shape they would remain, after having been cooled, until the device was again heated.

In reducing the invention to practice certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. In a device as set forth, a substantially crescent shaped body being shaped to conform to the shape of a cap vizor, and a plu rality of spaced arcuate tines formed on the convex edge of said crescent shaped body,

Relatively and extending upwardly from and rearwardly over the upper surface of said body.

2. In a cap shaping and ventilating device structure, a substantially crescent shaped body plate shaped to conform to a vizor of a cap, a plurality of tines formed integrally with the convex edge of said body plate and being curved upwardly and rearwardly over said body plate, said tines being spaced suflicient distance above said body plate for supporting the body of the cap above the vizor of the same.

3.111 a cap shaping and ventilating device structure, a substantially crescent shaped body plate shaped to conform to a vizor of a cap, a plurality of tinesforrned integrally with the convex edge of said body plate and being curved upwardly and rearwardly over said body plate, said tines being spaced suflicient distance above said body plate for supporting the body of the cap above the vizor of the same, and a plurality of relatively short tongues formed upon the convex edge of said body and positioned between said first named tongues, said short tongues being upturned.
