To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN H. Pownns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of VVyandotte and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in trousers supporting devices, and one object is to provide a new and useful device of this character wherein the belt constituting the body of the device is so formed that the weight of the trousers tends to cause it to? the belt, which may be taken up or let out by firmly embrace the waist of the wearer and thus prevent it from slipping downward out of position after it has been properly adjusted to the waist.

A further object is to provide a device of this character which will readily accommodate itself to the slight movement of the trousers caused by the wearer moving his body into different positions, to provide for the proper positioning of the device at all times irrespective of the position of the body of the wearer, and also to provide for easy and quick disengagement of the trousers from the device when occasion so requires.

Another object is to provide novel means for engagement with the buttons or other fastening members of the trousers, said means being of such form as to not only permit quick and easy disengagement of the buttons therefrom, but are also readily interchangeable to compensate for undue wear on any one of the parts, and at the same time generally increase the efliciency of the entire device.

Other objects will hereinafter appear, and in order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in operative position. Fig. 2 is an elevation, partly in section, of interchangeable supporting members and adjacent parts. Fig. 3 is an elevation, of said supporting members and adjacent parts, in operative position. Fig. 4 is a broken detail side elevation of certain parts of the device whereby the trousers may be adjusted vertically at the convenience of the wearer. Fig. 5 is a broken, front elevation of the belt and means for fastening the ends thereof together.

In carrying out the invention, I employ a sides 2 of which are slightly V-shaped or depressed below the front and back thereof, so that the weight of the trousers A, bearng downward upon said depressed portions pulls the front and back of the belt toward each other, and thus prevents said belt from slipping downward on the waist of the wearer. of the wearer more snugly, than one in which its entireupper surface extends in the same plane. One end of the belt is provided with a hook 3 for engagement with a link 4 extending through the looped opposite end of a movable clasp 5 swiveled on a linke secured to said looped end of the belt.

6 designates a pair of tabs depending from the depressed sides 2 of the belt and provided at their lower ends with hooks 7 for engagement with links 8, attached to the upper ends of tabs 9 which tabs are provided at their lower ends 'with movable clasps 10, whereby theymay be taken up or let down to adjust the trousers to the desired height. The tabs 6 and 9 are, preferably, made of elastic fabric, and the lower portions of the tabs 9 are formed into loops 11 to support links 12 detachably engaging studs 13 projecting inwardly from two pairs of plates 14, each pair of which is connected together by its respective stud 13 and a pair of rivets 15.

Each pair of plates 14: are spaced a short distance apart as disclosed by Fig 1, to admit clips 16 at the ends of supporting members 17 Each supporting member 17 is made, preferably, of one piece of resilient wire 18 bent in the shape disclosed by Fig. 2 and provided at each end with a clip 16, one for engagement with a stud or rivet, and the other for engagement with a button or other fastening member B on the waist band C of the trousers. The greater portions of the wires 18 are inclosed in sheaths 19 of fabric or other suitable material.

In practice the belt 1 is first adjusted around the waist of the wearer and either over or under the outer shirt, after Which the supporting members 17 are spread apart at their upper ends and caused to engage the buttons B on the waist band C of the trousers. The hooks 7 are then passed through the links 8, after which the trousers may be adjusted to the proper height by proper adjustment of the clasps 10. While This form of belt also fits the waist the slight movement of the trousers when the position of the body is changed. Should one of the supporting members 17 become excessively worn it can be interchanged with others upon which such wear has not taken place.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, I reserve the right to make such changes in the details of construction, arrangement and proportion of parts as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a trousers supporting device, a belt to be positioned about the body of the wearer, tabs fixed to said belt, hooks carried by said tabs, other tabs having members to detachably-en gage said hooks, a link adjustably-supported by each of said last-mew tioned tabs, plates detaohably-engaged by said links, and interchangeable supporting members attached to the plates and adapted to engage fastening members on the trousers.

2. In a trousers supporting device of the character described, a belt to be positioned about the body of the wearer and having two oppositely-disposed depressed portions, plates adjustably-secured to said depressed portions of the belt, and interchangeable supporting devices adapted to detachablyengage said plates and buttons on the trousers.

3. In a trousers supporting device of the character described, a belt to be positioned about the body of the wearer, pairs of plates, means to retain each pair of plates in spaced relation, means adjustably-connecting said plates and the belt, and interchangeable supporting devices engaging the spacing means of the plates and adapted to engage fastening devices on the trousers.

4. In a trousers supporting device, a belt to be positioned about the body of the wearer, tabs fixed to said belt, other tabs detachably-connected to the first tabs and provided with adjusting means whereby they may be taken up or let out, plates connected to the last-mentioned tabs, supporting members engaging said plates and adapted to detachably-engage buttons on the trousers, and sheaths covering said supporting members.
