CIGARETTE-HOLDER.

T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Isaac WVALLENs'rEIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

such as shown and described in the Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,164,434, granted to Ralph lVallenstein, on December 14, 1915.

The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved cigarette holder arranged to properly accommodate and securely hold cigarettes which may be round or oblong in cross section.

In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a body having an open end and a pair of corrugated clamping members projecting outwardly from the said open end and serving to clamp thecigarettes be tween them, one of the clamping members having its corrugations arranged for each to receive a single cigarette while the corrugations of the other clamping member exceed in number the corrugations of the firstnamed member to permit of holding cigarettes of different cross sections firmly clamped in position in the corrugations of the first-named member.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cigarette holder avith the covers in open position; Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the same with cigarettes of oblong cross section in position in the holder; Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a plan View of the clamping members with round cigarettes held between them.

Cigarettes as now generally sold in the open market are of two kinds as far as shape is concerned, namely, the so-called Turkish cigarette, which is oblong in cross section, and the ordinary cigarette, which is round in cross section, as will be readily understood by comparison of the cigarettes shown in Figs. 9. and 4. tioned in the holder and to securely retain the same in position therein without danger of crushing or breaking the cigarettes, is

the main part of the invention presently described in detail.

The body 10 of the cigarette holder is of, substantially, flat hollow formation and is provided with an upper open end adapted to'be closed by hinged spring-pressed covers 11 and 12. As the construction and operation of the covers and the means for opening and closing the same may be of any construction, such, for instance, as shown in the patent above referred to, it is not deemed necessary to describe the same further. From the open end of the body 10 projects outwardly a plate 13 fixed to one side of the body 10, and this plate 13 is provided at its inner face with corrugations 14, each for receiving singly a cigarette 15 of oblong shape (see Fig. 9) or a cigarette 16' of round shape, as illustrated'in Fig. 4.

In order to clamp the cigarettes 15 and 16 in position in the corrugations 14, use is made of a presser bar 20 hinged at its lower end at 21 to the side of the body 10 opposite the one on which the plate 13 is attached. The presser bar 20 is pressed on by a spring 22 which tends to swing the presser bar toward the plate 13 thus securely clamping the cigarettes 15 or 16 in position in the corrugations 14 of the plate 13. The presser bar 20 is provided with corrugations 23 which are more in number than the corrugations 14 of the opposite plate 13 and are somewhat narrower so that the presser bar readily holds oblong cigarettes 15 or round cigarettes 16 in position in the corrugations 14 of the plate 13, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 2 and 4. The presser bar 20 is provided at its ends with upturned finger-pieces 25 either of which can be readily engaged by one of the fingers of the operator to permit the same to swing the presser bar outward into open position when filling the body 10 with cigarettes. When this has been done, the operator releases the corresponding fingerpiece to permit the presser bar to swing inward against the cigarettes seated singly in the corrugations 14, as previously explained.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cigarette holder provided with a pair of corrugated clamping members for clamping the cigarettes between them, one of the clamping members having its corrugations arranged for each to receive a single cigarette and the corrugations of the other clamping member exceeding in number the corrugations of the first-named member to hold cigarettes of different cross sections firmly clamped in position in the corrugations of the first-named member.

A cigarette holder including a body having an open end, a corrugated plate se cured to and projecting outwardly from the open end of the said body, and a corrugated presser bar pivotally secured to and projecting outwardly from the open end of the said body and operating in conjunction with the said plate to clamp the cigarettes between them, the corrugations of the said plate being arranged for each to receive a single cigarette and the corrugations of the presser bar exceeding the number of corrugations of the plate to hold cigarettes of different cross sections firmly clamped in position in the corrugations of the plate.

A. cigarette holder including a body having an open end, a corrugated plate secured to and projecting outwardly of the open end of the said body, and a corrugated presser bar pivotally secured to and projecting outwardly from the open end of the said body and operating in conjunction with the said plate to clamp the cigarettes between them, the corrugations of the said plate being arranged for each to receive a single cigarette and the corrugations of the presser bar exceeding the number of corrugations of the plate to hold cigarettes of different cross sections firmly clamped in position in the corrugations of the plate, the

said presser bar being provided at its ends with upwardly extending fingerpieces.
