JULIEN STRANDERS, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW- YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HARRY B. KRUGER, 0F
' NEW YORK, N. Y.
ADVERTISING- DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JULIEN SrnANDnns,a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new anduseful 11nprovements in Advertising Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in and relating to advertising display stands which are adapted to be folded or collapsed and are intended to be set up in showswindows, after they have been opened from the collapsed position to the displaying position in which the same are self-supporting.
An object of the invention is to provide such a device which will be artistic and attractive and which will closely simulate a pyramid formed of articles such as containers in the form of cans, boxes, or the like.
Another object is to'provide a display device that is inexpensive to manufacture, requiring comparatively a small amount of material, and which may be folded in convenient shape for shipment and transportation.
A. further object is to provide such a device which may be readily opened from the collapsed position to the displaying or open position by the mere movement of the members relatively to each other.
With these and other objects in view, my invention comprises the novel features, arrangements and combinations of parts, here inafter more fully described with reference to the drawings and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device in open or displaying position; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; F ig. 3 is a plan view thereof partially collapsed; Fig. 4 is a diagrammatical view thereof in a collapsed or closed position; and Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 are detail views of the parts employed in constructing this embodiment of my invention.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several news.
Referring to the drawings and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 thereof, my invention comprises members 10, 11, 12 and 13, preferably formed of cardboard or similar material and bearing thereon the representation of a number of articles to be displayed, such as cans or containers, arranged in tiers. The said members 10, 11, 12 and 13 are so hinged and interlocked that in open position the device is self-supporting, and all portions of each member are visible from different angles, giving the illusionary appearance in relief of a pyramid of articles.
l/Vhen in display position the device comprises a set of fiat step-shaped members 10 and 13 disposed in parallel stepped relation. and a set of flat step- shaped members 11 and 12 also disposed in parallel stepped relation to each other, but at right angles to the members 10 and 13. The member 10 of the first set is provided near one end with a short upward slit or slot 14 in line with the second step of said member and extending along the subdivision between the represented article 15 at the right of the lower tier of articles and the next represented article 16, and with a longer upward slit or slot 23 in line with the third step thereof and extending along the line of division of the represented article 16. The other member 13 of the first set is provided with a down- Ward slit 26 in line with the third step thereof and with an upward slit or slot 3 in line with the fourth step thereof. The member 11 of the second set is provided with a short downward slit or slot 17 in line with the second step thereof and with a longer upward slit or slot 24 in line with the third step thereof. The member 12 of the second set is provided with a downward slit or slot 25 in line with the third step thereof and with a downward slit 33 in line with the fourth step thereof. At the intersection of the member 10 with the member 11 the uncut portion of the member 11 engages the slot 14 of the member 10 and the uncut portion of the member 10 engages the slot 17 of the member 11. At the intersection of the members 10 and 12 the uncut portion of the member 12 engages the slot 23 of the member 10 and theuncut portion of the member 10 engages the slot 25 of the member 12. At the intersection of the member 13 with the member 11 the uncut portion of the member 13 engages the slot 24 of the member 11 and the uncut portion of the member 11 engages the slot 26 of the member 13. At the intersection of the member 13 with the member 12 the uncut portion of the member 13 engages the slot .33 of the member 12 and the uncut portion of the member 12 engages the slot as of the member 13. In other words the slits 14 and 17 register with each other, the slits 23 and 25 register with each other, the slits 2 f and 26 register with each other and the slits 33 and 3a register with each other, the interlocking of the parts at these intersections being effected by the joint action of these pairs of slits in the intersecting members. The intersecting members are hinged together by means of tapes 20, 27, 28 and 35 as shown in Fig. 2.
lVith my invention a very attractive and substantial display is provided, which may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost, and which is so constructed as to be folded or collapsed into a very small space for shipping purposes.
I have illustrated a preferred and satisfactory form of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein, that a greater number of tiers of articles may be displayed, and the outline of the sections may be varied, all within the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim An advertising collapsible display device representing in multiple tiers a pile of articles to be displayed and comprising a set of flat step-shaped members disposed in parallel stepped relation and a set of flat step-shaped members disposed in parallel stepped relation at right angles to the first set, one member of the first set having near one end a short upward slit in line with the second step of said member and a longer up- Ward slit in line with the third step thereof, the other member of said first set having a downward slit in line with the third step thereof and an upward slit in line with the fourth step thereof, one member of the second set having a short downward slit in line with the second step of said member and a longer upward slit in line with the third step thereof, and the other member of the second set having a downward slit in line with the third step of said member and a downward slit in line with the fourth step thereof, said slits permitting the interlocking of the members at their several points of intersection.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULIEN STRANDERS.
