UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ A. FULLER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE 3'. E. MERGOTT COMPANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
CALENDAR.
Application filed January 4, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cityof Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendars, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to calendars, and its object is to provide a simple and novel form of device of this character, which may be utilized for a number of useful purposes, such as to furnish a calendar, paper weight, paper clip, or other convenient and useful device.
The present invention consists primarily in a novel calendar, hereinafter set forth, and, furthermore, this invention consists in the various novel arrangements and combinations of parts, all of which will be described in detail in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a plan View of my im proved calendar. Fig. 2 represents a side view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a plan view of my improved calendar, the calendar cards and cover having been removed; and Fig. 4 represents a central section of my improved calendar, the cover being shown in an open position.
Similar letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawings.
In the drawings, a and 7) designate the plates of the clasp, preferably made of metal or any suitable material, which are provided with up-turned ears 0, which overlap and are mounted upon and secured by a pivot pin (5, said plates being normally held closed under tension by the spring 6 coiled around said pivot pin. The front edge of the plate a terminates preferably in a curved portion, which engages the front edge of the supporting plate Z), said plate I) being provided near its rear edge with an aperture f, by
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 331.
means of which the device can be hung upon a nail or the like, if desired.
1 he plate a, near its side and front marginal edges is provided with a series of integral lugs which are preferably struck up from and extend upwardly from said plate, designed to provide means for properly positioning and holding a calendar card it, a series of calendar cards, a picture or the like. The lugs g furthermore provide means for positioning and guiding the cover or lid on the plate a.
A hinged lid -or cover 2', the lower half of which is preferably provided with an embossed portion to be utilized for advertising purposes, and the upper half of which is provided with a cut-out portion to expose the calendar, picture or the like, is secured to the plate a, near the rear edge thereof, in the following manner. The lid or cover a is provided with a downwardly extending flange j, that portion of the flange at the rear edge of the lid or cover being curled inwardly, to form a tubular bearing is for the reception of the wire rod 01' pintle Z. The ends of the pintle Z are bent downwardly, and pass through suitable apertures m formed in the plate a, and are then clenched upon the under side of said plate.
A finger piece a pierced from the lid or cover 2', is located near the front edge of the lid, thereby providing means for releasing the lid from locking engagement with the lug 9, said lug being provided with a pressed-out portion 0, which has locking engagement with the flange of the lid or cover, adjacent to the finger piece a.
The parts of this device are preferably made from sheet metal, and are of such shape as to lend themselves readily to manufacture by the use of suitable punches and dies.
Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly eflicient one, and while the device described is the preferred embodiment of my present invention, I do not care to restrict myself to the exact details of'construction, combination and arrangement herein set forth, it being obvious that minor variations thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic, and such departures from what is herein described and lugs formed on the plate to Which the cover is secured, adapted to hold a card or the like v 2 I r 1,192,054
in position a holding lug on the plate having holding engagement With said cover, a supporting plate pivotally connected to the first-named plate intermediate of their ends, the front edge of the first-named plate engaging the front edge of the supporting plate and a spring coiled around the pivot to normally hold the plates together at one end of the same.
This specification signed and witnessed this 31st day of December, 1914.
