To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, JOHN P. SUNDIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Marion and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Clothes-Drainer, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention appertains to clothes drainers for wash boilers, and aims to provide a novel and improved device of that character, whereby the clothes can be readily elevated out of the water to drain them, thus permitting the clothes to be re moved conveniently.

The invention includes an apertured clothes supporting member within the boiler, and novel means for raising the same to elevate the clothes out of the water in a convenient manner, and for holding the clothes in elevated position.

It is also within the scope of the invention to provide a clothes drainer which can be applied to various drainers, and which is comparatively simple and inexpensive in construction, as well as being practical and efficient in use.

\Vith the foregoing and other object in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wash boiler having the improvements applied thereto, and illustrating the clothes holder in elevated position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the structure with the clothes holder lowered and the cover applied to the boiler. Fig. 3 is an end view of the device in position as illustrated in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device.

The present device is applicable to any suitable wash boiler 1, which may be provided with the usual cover 2. In carrying out the invention, a pair of vertical plates 3 is secured to each end of the boiler 1, said plates having flanges 3 riveted or otherwise secured to the boiler, and the upper ends of said plates are provided with outwardly projecting or inclined arms 4: having handles 5 secured therebetween, whereby the boiler can be conveniently handled.

The upper ends of the plates 3 are provided with outer bent back ears 6, and pulley wheels or sheaves 7 are mounted for rotation between the upper ends of the plates 3 and ears 6. The lower ends of the plates 3 are also provided with outer bent back ears 8, and pulley wheels or sheaves 9 are mounted for rotation between said ears 8 and the lower ends of said plates. ires or other flexible elements 10 are passed under the pulley wheels 9 and over the pulley wheels 7, and bails 11 have their terminals attached to the outer ends of the pairs ofi flexible elements 10. The inner ends of the flexible elements 10 extend downwardly into the boiler 1 and are attached to a horizontal aperture plate 12 fitted loosely within the boiler and providing an elevator.

The bails 11 have oitscts 13 providing handles 14, and the bails are of sufficient width to pass over the handles 5 and their arms l, whereby when the bails are raised they can be passed over the handles 5 so that the offsets 13 are seatable in notches 15 with which the upper edges of the arms 14 ,are provided, thereby holding the bails in position.

An apertured clothes receptacle or holder 16 is adapted to be seated upon the elevator 12, and is of a shape resembling the boiler 1, but of slightly smaller size so as to fit loosely within the boiler. The holder 16 is provided with bail handles 17 having their terminals pivotally engaging the ends of the holder 16, whereby said holder can be handled easily.

The cover 2 has its depending flange or apron provided with suitable notches 18 for the passage of the flexible elements 10, whereby the cover can be applied to the boiler 1 without the interference of the flexible elements 10.

In use, supposing the holder 16 to be seated upon the elevator 12, the bails 11 are released from the arms 1 so" that the elevator 12 and holder 16 gravitate within the boiler, the bails 11 in contacting with the lower ends of the plates 3 supporting the elevator 12 slightly above the bottom of the boiler so that the clothes which are deposited within the holder 16 will be supported above the boiler bOttom, thereby providing a Water circulating spacebelow the clothes, whereby theclothes will be eflectively boiled. When boiler 1, as seen in Fig. 1. The bails 11 are then passed over the handles 5 so that the offsets 13 can seat in the notches 15, for holding the elevatoro12 in raised position. The

holder 16 can thus be left in raised position to permit the Water to "drain from the clothes, and the holder 16 can then be readily removed from the elevator 12 to transfer the clothes to the tubs, or the like.

When only a few clothes are boiled, the holder 16'need not be used, since the elevator 7 12 will suiiice for supporting the clothes and raising the same When the elevator is pulled upwardly by the flexible elements 10.

The present device enables the clothes to be removed and drained without the trouble resulting from the use of a stick or the like.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new 1s: r

The combination with a wash boiler, of a clothes supporting member therein, vertical plates attached to the ends of the boiler, upper and lower pulleys carried by said plates, flexible elements passed over the upper pulleys and under the lower pulleys and having their inner ends attached to said member, and handles attached to the outer ends of said elements, the upper ends of said plates having means for the engagement of the handles when they are raised.

3. The combination with a wash boiler, of an apertured clothes supporting member therein, a pair of vertical plates secured to each end of the boiler and having outstanding arms at their upper ends, handles secured between saidarms, the upper and lower ends of said plates having bent back ears, upper and lower pulleys mounted for rotation between said ears and plates, pairs of flexible elements passed over the upper pulleys and under the lower pulleys and having their inner ends attached to said member, and bails having their ends attached to the outer ends of said elements, the bails having offsets seatable upon said arms when the bails are raised, and forming handles.
