clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in camp stoves, and has for its object to so construct a device of this charac ter that the same can be easily and quickly folded so as to occupy a small space when transporting or for storage, and readily set up for use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a camp stove constructed in such a manner that access can be had to the oven without disturbing any of the parts, and further to provide means for effectively regulating the draft.
WVith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the stove. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central sectional view through the stove. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the stove when folded. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view of one of the sides to better illustrate the angularly disposed flanges thereon.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates the bottom of the stove, which has its sides and forward end be'nt upwardly to provide flanges 2 and 8, respectively, the former be ing greater in height than the latter. Hingedly connected to the upper edges of the flanges 2 are sides 4, each of which are provided on their inner surfaces with angularly disposed flanges 5, the purpose of which will appear later. To the upper edge of the flange 3 is hingedly connected the end 6, while similarly connected to the rear edge of the bottom 1 is an end 7, said end consisting of hingedly connected sections 8 and 9, the section 9 being provided with draft openings 10, and pivotally associated with the openings 10 are dampers 11. Slidable on the section 8 is a latch 12, which may be moved to hold the sections in their operative positions, or to permit the sections tov be folded upon each other when the stove is folded.
The oven 13 consists of a bottom 14 and ends 15 and 16, which are hingedly connected to the bottom. It will be noted that the ends 15 and 16 are so hinged to the bottom 13 that the lower edges thereof depend below said bottom when the stove is in its operative position, and engage the bottom 1, thereby holding the bottom ofthe oven spaced from the stove bottom.
Extending transversely of the bottom 1 is a vertical strip 17 for pivotally supporting the inner ends of the shafts 18, the outer end flange 3 and have their outer ends provided with crank handles 19, whereby said shaft may be rocked to raise or lower the plates 20, which are fixed to said shaft. The inner ends of the shafts 18 are provided with right angle extensions 21,.which are adapted to engagcthe bottom 1 of the stove to limit the swinging movement of the plates 20 in one direction.
The top 22 of the oven is provided at each end with spaced flanges 23 to provide grooves for engaging the upper edges of the ends 15 and 16. It will be noted that the sides 4 also serve as sides for the oven 13, when the stove is in its operative position, and that the flanges 5 carried by the sides 4 engage the side edges of the ends 15 and 16 and the side edges of the top 22, thereby preventing collapsing of the oven. One of the sides 4 is provided with a door 24, whereby access may be had to the oven 13 when desired.
Hingedly connected to the upper edge of one of the sides 4 is the top 25 of the stove, said top being provided with spaced end flanges 26, which produce channels 27 for engaging the upper edges of the ends 6 and 7, thereby preventing the same from collapsing when the stove is in use. It will be noted that the ends of the sides 4 are provided with vertical channels 28 which are adapted to engage the side flanges 29 formed upon fine 31, which communicates with the space 32 formed between the bottom of the oven and bottom of the stove. The strips are hingedly connected to the ends 16 of the oven so that they may be folded when the stove is folded. A damper 33 is hingedly connected to the forward edge of the oven top 22, and may be adjusted to regulate the draft, or the same may be closed so that the heat, instead of passing through the opening 34 in the top 25, will pass downwardly in the flue, and at the sides thereof into the space 32, the direction of which may be regulated by raising or lowering the plates 20. It will be noted that the end l5- of the oven is spaced sufficiently from the end 7 of the stove to provide a fire box 35. One of the sides 4: is provided with a door 36 so that fuel may be placed in the fire box 35, and ashes removed. The free edge of the'top 25 is provided with slots 37 which cooperate with the latches 38 carried by the adjacent side 4, whereby the top may be held in locked position.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a stove has been provided which can be easily and quickly folded upon simply unlocking the top 25, and removing the oven 13, which being foldable may be readily folded with the connected parts forming the stove proper.
What is claimed. is
1. A camp stove comprising a bottom,
sides and ends hingedly connected with the bottom, one of said ends consisting of hingedly connected sections, a top having one edge hingedly connected to the edge of one of the sides and adapted to engage the edges of the ends and the other side, an oven consisting of a bottom and hingedly connected ends, one of said ends having spaced strips hingedly connected thereto, the free ing to close the sides of the oven, strips hingedly connected to one of the ends of the oven and coacting with the adjacent stove end plate to provide a vertical flue, means for swinging the plates upwardly or downwardly, a top hingedly connected to one of the sides and adapted to engage the ends of the stove and adjacent side, and means for detachably connecting the free edge of the top to the upper edge of the adjacent side. 7
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
