from all-fibrous material; the provision of` means whereby the parts may be quickly assembled either by the box manufacturer or by the user of the boxes; and a construe tion by which a box used in transporting goods may be converted into a container adapted to display the contents.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention in the following views Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display box made according to my invention; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of an upper corner of my improved'box; Fig.

3 is an enlarged sectional view of the construction sliown in Fig. 2 with a different form of cover member designed to pi'otect the transparent member.

Referring to the details of my invention, the ,reference characters 6 and 7 represent respectively, the upper and lower frames-y which form the rims of the top and bottom of my improved box, to which frames or Y rims are fitted the side wall members 8 which are reinforced where bent to provide corners, by strips of fabric or ,other suit-` able material, as indicated by the reference character 9 in Fig. 1. Fitted ywithin the frame 6 is shown a supplemental lock oi inner frame 10, the outer walls of which are fitted to the inner walls of the frame 6.

As shown in the drawings, 12 represents a sheet of glass, mica, or other transparent material, the edges of which are secured to le lower face of the supplemental frame 13, represents a sheet of pulp or fibrous material which, as shown in Fig. 2, is se` cured to the under side of the outer frame 6, nails being used to attach said member 13 to said frame 6.`

As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, suitable kerfs 6*. are formed in the underside of frame member 6, and these kerfs are preferably formed tapering outwardly from their bottoms with the mouth rounded as shown at 6, Fig. 2, such an enlarged mouth and tapering wall kerf facilitating the entrance of the margins of the side walls 8. The side walls 8 are preferably formed with apertures 8a along their edges which receive the glue or other adhesive which is placed in the kerfs 6b in suflicient quantities so that when the margins of the walls 8.are pushed into said kerfs the sealing, adhesive substance will flow into the openings 8a and form, when set or hardened, an eflicient anchoring means for holding said side walls securely in place relative to the frame members 6 and 7. The cover member 13 is preferably provided with a score line 131L at the inner margin of the frame member 6, so as to facilitate the severance of a portion of the member lyingwithin the frame when it is desired to open the box.

I prefer to make the interlitting walls of the top members 6 and 10, and the coi'responding members 7 and 11, in the bottom frame, with broken joints as indicated at 6a, 102L and 7a, 11, that are preferably inclined or beveled about half their height and are then stepped or provided with slight shoulders and x, respectively, that terminate'in straight vertical walls y and y', substantially as shown. 'The interfitting walls of the bottom frameare similarly inclined and provided with shoulders X and X and with straight walls Y and Y. The members 1() are preferably secured to the members `6 byl light nailsl which may be easily removed when `it is desired to disconnect the two frames. This operation is resorted to when the user ofthe box wishes to convert it into a display container which is readily done by cutting out the portion of the cover 13 within the scored lines 13a, and then replacing the frame l0 with its transparent member 12. lVhen thus replaced the frame 10 will rest removably upon the frame 6, the shoulders and serving as an effective support for the inner frame. IV hen it is desired to protect the transparent member 1Q in the shipment of the box supplied with such member, I will use a sheet of fiber 15 the margins of which will be bent up at right angles as at 15a, Fig. 3, and the same nails which secure the frame 10 to the frame G will pass through said flanges and hold the member 15 in place until the box reaches the hands of the user when the member 15 may be readily removed by withdrawing the nails. In such case Iv may dispense with the cover member 13 on lthe under side of the transparent member 12.

From the construction illustrated and above described, it will be obvious that I have provided al display container the members of which can be completely formed at a central'manufacturing plant, can be shipped to the userV who can assemble the parts quickly and easily w-ith theuse of but few nails or brads, and whocan lock the top and bottom members to the sidesby merely pouring a suitable adhesive substance into the kerfs formed in the top and bottom frames, and that when the box thus assembled is packed or filled any attempt to open it will require either the severance of the top or bottom walls 13, 14, from their respective frames or the fracture of the hard sealing medium used in the kerfs and portions of which, as we have seen, will fill Y the apertures Sa, thus disclosing that the package has been tampered with. It will also be observed that the receptacle may readily be convertedy into a display box by the purchaser by removing` the frame 10 having the transparent plate 12' and severing the member 13 along the scored lines 13n whereupon the frame may be replaced and is adapted to close the box. Inlthis connection I have shown the members 9 as a thin flexible material pasted to the side members S and serving merely as flexible hinges for said members.

IIaving thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. A display container comprising top and bottom frames, side and end walls secured to said frames, opaque top and bottom walls secured `to the lower side of the top frame and the upper side of the lower frame, a supplemental frame fitting within, supported by and detachably secured to said top frame, and a transparent sheet secured to said supplemental frame and lying contiguous to the opaque top wall.

2. A display container comprising a top frame, a portion of which is inclined and provided with a shoulder, a bottom frame, and side walls secured to said frames, a supplemental frame having its edge undercut and provided with a shoulder and adapted to fit within and be removably secured to said top frame, a transparent sheet secured to said supplemental frame, and an opaque sheet lying adjacent thereto and adapted to protect said transparent sheet.

3. A display container comprising a top frame, al bottom frame, and side Walls secured to said frames, a supplemental frame fitting within and detachably secured to said top frame, an opaque sheet secured to the underside of said top frame and provided with scoring substantially parallel to the edge of said frame, and a transparent sheet secured to said supplemental frame.

A display container comprising a top Jframe, a bottom frame, and side walls secured to said frames, a supplemental frame litting within and detachably secured to said top frame, an opaque sheet secured to the underside of said top frame and provided with scoring substantially parallel to the edge of said frame, and a transparent sheet secured to the underside of said supplementalframe and overlying said opaque sheet.
