ATTACHMENT DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1916.
Application filed August 2, 1913. Serial No. 782,627.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. LANGHAM- MnR, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Bridgeport, Falrfielcl county, Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachment Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to attachment devices of the kind usually made by stamping the same out of sheet metal and has as its object the production of a device which will remain securely in place when closed while at the same time it may be readily adjusted with reference to its supporting means, when open.
Further objects and advantages will appear hereinafter in the more detailed description.
I have illustrated my invention in connection with the attaching of the lower edge of a brassierc to one of the studs of a corset, a use for which my device is peculiarly adaptable.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my device in place on a tape depending from the front of a brassiere and connected with the stud of a corset. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device alone. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the device in closed position. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the device as shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view of the device showing the same as applied in Fig. 1, parts being broken away. Figs. 2 to 5 inclusive are on a somewhat enlarged scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings 0!. indicates a brassiere in position over the upper portion of a corset b, c is a tape of any suitable material, elastic, or non-elastic, attached in any suitable manner to the bottom of the brassiere preferably in line with and fastened to the central seam d of the brassiere.
e, 6 indicate the studs of the front clasp of the corset, f indicates the attachment devlce.
The attachment device f comprises a back plate 9 provided with a key-hole slot h to receive a stud e, a horizontal slot 71 to receive the tape 0 and ears j, j to act as bearings for pintles 7a, 70 on lever Z. Lever Z comprises a finger piece m, a serrated edge n bent at an angle to the finger piece, and an outwardly down on the tape to secure the requisite de-' gree of strain and the lever'l closed so that the serrated edge a squeezes tape a between sald serrated edge and the back plate. The finger piece on prevents the device from slipping off the head of the stud to which it is attached and the lug 0 prevents therstud from slipping under the finger piece. The grip of serrated edge n on the tape andthe' angle of the lines of strain prevent the finger piece from accidentally rising and releasing the connection between the attachment device and the stud.
While I have illustrated the device as applied in connection with securing the lower edge of a brassire to a corset stud, it is obvious that the same may find further application in connection with any similar or analogous use and I do not restrict myself to the use shown nor "to the details of construction illustrated and described further than the scope of the appended claim demands.
What I claim is:
An attachment device for an apparel provided with a studcomprisinga substantially smooth plate provided with a key-hole slot, a lever pivotally mounted on said'plate and a lug projecting from the end thereof and extending at an angle thereto, said lug being adapted to project intothe slot and to lie in the path of the stud when the latter is positioned at the narrow end of said keyhole slot to positively prevent disengage ment of said stud relative to said plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK L. LANGHAMMER.
