LAMP.
Application filed November 20, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEWIS E. HENDRICKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Campbellsport, in the county of Fond du Lac and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improve ments in lamps and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in submersion; and it is an object of the invention to provide a lamp of this general character which may be applied in operative position with convenience and facility and whereby the same may be readily adjusted to direct the beams of light in different directions.
Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a lamp of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the possibility of the lenses or inclosing glasses becoming clouded is substantially entirely eliminated.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved lamp whereby certain important ad vantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all. as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be thebetter understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a lamp constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the coacting portion of a boat being shown in section; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view, partly in elevation and partly in section, illustrating certain details of the invention as herein included.

The lower extremity of the member 1 is slightly offset and terminates in a socket 7 to which a bulb 8 is adapted to be connected, the socket 7 having in electrical connection therewith in a conventional manner the conductors a disposed through the member 1 and the extension 6 and leading from a suitable source of electrical energy. The lower end of the member 1 has also secured thereto the reflector head 10 substantially conical in form and having its outer end closed by the separated lenses or glasses 11 affording therebetween a dead air space 12 whereby it will be perceived that the possibility of said glasses becoming clouded by steam generated from the heat emitted from the bulb 8 is substantially eliminated. As herein embodied, the lenses or glasses 11 are mounted within an annular member 14 bolted or otherwise secured to the outer marginal por tion of the reflector hood 10. 'I also find it of advantage to interpose between the hood 10 and the member 1' the supporting member or brace 15, for a purpose which is believed to be self-evident.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a lamp constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my in vention in practice.
I claim:
1. An apparatus for submerged illumination comprising a bracket adapted to be operatively engaged with a buoyant body and having vertically alined arms, an elongated vertically disposed member rotatably supported by the arms and extending above and below the body, a lamp operatively engaged with the lower end portion of the elongated member, the portion of the member above the body being angularly disposed to afiord means whereby the elongated member may be rotated, the lamp carried by the lower end of the elongated member being angularly disposed relative to the elongated member.
