WASHING-MACHINJEL wmw T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Pnnnnnn DRAPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bingham Canyon, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Nashing-lllachines, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates to improvements in Washing machines, and an object of my invention is the provision of a machine which will thoroughly and quickly cleanse the clothes Without contact, thus insuring the highest degree of efficiency without injury to the clothes.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a machinewhich can be oper ated by hand or power and which Will quickly and thoroughly cleanse the articles without. injury thereto.
Another object of my invention is the production of a. Washing machine which will possess merit in point of simplicity, durability and inexpensiveness, and which will he practical from every point of view.
To attain the desired objects my invention consists of a washing machine embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as shown, described and claimed herein.
, lnorder that, the detailed construction and operation of my invention may be understood 'nnd its advantages fully appreciated, I have. shown in the accompanying drawings a Washing machine constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 1 represents a vertical central sec-- tional view of a washing machine embodying my invention, andFig. 2 represents a side elevation of the machine.
Referring lily letter to the drawings: the letter A, designates the outer receptacle or vessel of the desired siae supported on legs ll, and homing the pair of lateral guiding cars 0, and the pair of depending brackets 13 in which bears the shaft E liavin end crank arms 1*, anu central crank yoke G. To the said yoke G is connected the inner end ll, of the. pitinan ll, Whose outer end H is connected the lower end of the hand lever J, fnlcruined at .l, to the lateral arm K, which arm is secured rigidly to the bottom of the vessel. Also upon the shaft E, is mounted a wheel I), operated hy a belt L",
from a suitable driving source. From this Specification of Letters Patent.

construction it will be noted that the shaft 111, is revolved either by hand through the medium of the hand lever, or by power ap plied through the belt and Wheel and to the crank arms F, is secured the lower ends M, of the bail M, to Whose central portion M is connected at N, the upper end of the piston rod N, carrying the piston head N.
The rotation of the shaft E, reciprocates the bail M which is guided in the lateral ears C and reciprocates the piston rod N with its head N and the said head moves in the vertical cylinder 0, rising centrally from the clothes receptacle P. The recentacle has an opening P in its bottom Wall leading from the cylinder, is supported in the vessel upon suitable feet Q, is provided with perforations R, in. its bottom and side walls and is suymorted upon the vessel the flanged rim 15, which also forms a old sure between the walls of the outer vessel and clothes receptacle.
In operation a proper amount of Water placed in the vessel and clothes receptacle and in this condition the soiled garlnents are placed in the receptacle and the reciprd cation of the piston head, in the manner stated, forces air and water rapidly through the clothes and imparts the desired agitation toabsolutcly remove all soil and effect a. rapid and thorough. cleaning without darnage to the articles.
The machine can he peratcd by hand or power, will quickly cleanse any kinder? l'ahric without injury and generally spcalong is ellicient, desirable and practical.
While the machine is particularly adapt ed for wasl, g clothes it will he understood that it may he used for Washing dishes; also that the machine may he made of any or shape and o Wood or metal; also is thoroughly saw a y every part can he removed and cleaned; and the machine may be operated from shows: or l'ieloiv and X .l hrove useful either in the houselwld or dry.
I claim: I
A. washing, machine, consisting oil? a son ported receptacle, a pair of brackets depend ing from. said receptacle, a pair of lugs e7- tending laterally from the receptacle, a sh having a central cranked portion and cranked ends mounted in said hracltcts, crating means connected with the cent cranked portion of said shar a yoke gull. a.
l in the lateral lugs and having its lower ends connected to the cranked ends of said shaft, a clothes container mounted in said receptacle and comprising a perforated vessel having" a flanged rim fitting on the top of said receptacle, a pump cylinder therein and a piston in said cylinder connected with and operated bythe yoke said cylinder having a free opening in its bottom and adapted to force the Water from the cylinder into 10 the outer receptacle and through perforations in said receptacle onto the clothes.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
