ABDOMINAL BELT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 23, 1916.
Application filed August 15, 1913. Serial No. 784,989.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GIUsnrrn SIGURINI, M. D., a subject of the King of Italy, and residing at 22 Via Grazzano, Udine, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Belts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the .accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in belts for orthopedic and surgical purposes.
The object of the invention is to provide a belt which when applied will apply the main pressure on the abdomen and back of the wearer.
The invention comprehends improvements in the construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a face view of a back belt used in carrying out my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of an abdominal belt employed in connection with the belt shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the back and abdominal belt when in use. Fig. 1 is a face view of a different form of abdominal belt. Fig. 5 is a face view of a different form of the invention. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the belt shown in Fig. 5.
The numeral 1 indicates a back belt formed with two vertical slots 2, and at the ends are tapes 3.
4: indicates an abdominal belt, shown in Fig. 2 as having a vertical slot 5, and pro vided intermediate its length with two sets of tapes 66, while at its ends it is provided with tapes 7-7.
The belt shown in Fig. at is the same as that shown in Fig. 2, except the interme diate tapes, indicated at 6 are fastened at the center as shown. When in use, the two ends 8-8 of the abdominal belt 4c. are passed through the slots 22, then one of said ends is passed through the vertical slot 5, as shown in Fig. 3. When the back and abdominal belts are located on the body, the tapes 3 and 6 are tied together to obtain the desired pressure on the back, and then the tapes 7 are tied together to obtain the necessary pressure on the abdomen. By reference to Fig. 3 it is evident that the back and abd men of he we e i the belt receive the greatest pressure which is desirable in the treatment of certain cases. By employing the abdominal belt shown in Fig. 4, the ends of the back belt may be drawn closer together.
In the form of belt shown in Figs. 5 and (3, the back and abdominal belts are attached to each other, but the principle of the invention is the same. In these figures, 10 indicates the abdominal belt provided i11- termediate its length with tapes 11, and having tapes 12 secured to its ends. Near one end the belt is formed with a vertical slot 13, through which one end 14 is passed when applying the belt to the body. Sewed or otherwise fastened to the abdominal belt, between the slot and the center of the abdominal belt, is a back belt section 15, which flares outwardly to provide sufficient surface to engage the body. The back belt section is provided with a slot 16, for the passage of the end 14 of the abdominal belt. From the end of the back belt extend tapes 17, which cooperate with the tapes 11, when the invention is in use. To apply this form of the invention, the belt is passed around the body, and the end 1% of the abdominal belt is passed through the slots 16 and 13, as shown in Fig. 6. The tapes 11 and 17 are tied together, and then the two ends of the abdominal belt are brought around to the front and the tapes 12 are tied together. By this means different pressures may be brought at different parts of the back and abdomen.
What I claim is 1. A belt of the character described comprising a back section and an abdominal section, slots being formed in said sections for the passage of the ends of the sections, tapes for securing the two sections together, and fastening means on the ends of the abdominal section to fasten said section inthe body of the wearer, the abdominal secwitnesses the twenty-ninth day of July, tion extending through the slots in the back 1913.
