Description

F. KERKA SL H. E. LINENBROKER. APPARATUS FOR wAvlNG NATURAL HAIR.
APPLICATION FILED lAN.24.1914.
c E s FRANCIS KIERKA AND HENRY EDMUND LINENBROKER, 0F LONDON, ENGLAND. i
APPARATUS FOR WAVING NATURAL HAIR.
To all whom z' may concern Be it known that we, FRANCIS' KERKA and HENRY EDMUND LINENBROKER, both subjects of the King of England, and residents of London,` W., England, have invented an Improved Apparatus for Waving Natural Hair, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object an apparatus for'waving natural hair on the head. l
The features which distinguish our invention froml known hair waving apparatus consist in that the waving apparatus, as hereinafter more fully described, comprises a tube havingopenings and two coaXially disposed inner tubes whereby the center tube consists'of three sleeves of different diameter which are welded together, and of which the largest is provided witha slot. Thus, the paper tube, by means of which the hair is introduced first of all in the known manner, is made to come in contact with the smallest sleeve only, whereas the greater part of the paper tube and consequently the hair remains free of contact with the other two sleeves so that naturally only a small part of the said paper tube and hair is ima mediately heated. In this way it is then possible to dry the hear near its roots simultaneously with or sooner than the ends of the hair, which is of the greatest importance. f
In order to assist the description reference is made to the accompanying drawings,
in which:- l
Figure l shows `an elevation, partly lin section, of the heater; Fig. 2l shows a section through line A-B, Fig. 1.
The electrical heater yconsists in the main of an inner tube comprising three sleeves a, b and c, the said sleeves being of different diameter and Welded together, one to the other. The largest sleeve, namely that designated by a is provided at Z with a slot, the material forming the edges of the slot being bent outwardly and backwardly in such a manner ,that iaps d1 arel f'ormed which Specification of Letters Patent.

serve to guide and hold the said tube coi axially within a second tube f. A cylindrical mantle g flanged at g1 also coaxial with the center tube and provided with perforations p and slots p1, is adapted to receive the said center tube and the second tube f and is moreover so constructed thatV the langed'handle z. can be detachably iXed at h1 while washers h2 and 71.3 between the flanged portion g1 of the mantle g and that of the handle 7L allow of an open air space s for the purpose of keeping the handle cool.
The means for heating this apparatus may be of any known and suitable construction and arrangement and are therefore not shown nor intended to form part of this invention.
The aforesaidy slot d in the sleeve a has for its object to allow the escape of hot gases produced by the heatingy of the damp or greasy hair introduced into the apparatus,
the gases finally escaping through the per-l forations p and slots p1 of the mantle g.
Having now fully described our said ihvention what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An apparatus for lwaving natural hair on the head, comprising the combination with a perforated tube, flanged and slotted at opposite ends, of two coaxially disposed inner tubes of which the innermosttube consists of three sleeves of different diameters which
