0.'A. JOHNSON.
METAL BARREL COVER; APPLICATION FILED APR. I6, 1915.
'1 ,1 3,2 36. Patented May 16, 1916.
@TA ATM FFllGQ OSCAR A. JOHNSON, OF MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN.
METAL-BARREL COVER.
Application filed April 16, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR A. JoHNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marquette, in the county of Marquette, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal- Barrel Covers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in barrels and particularly to heads for metal barrels.
One object of the invention is to provide a novelly constructed barrel and head, the latter of which can be effectively locked against removal.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing; in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of one end of a barrel made in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 1, 3 is an enlarged transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical section on the line of Fig. 2.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the upper end of a sheet metal barrel, the same being bent downwardly within the barrel and then upwardly, as shown respectively at 11 and 12. A cover or head 13 has its peripheral edge formed with a downturned flange 14 in which are formed the inclined slots 15, the same opening through the lower edge of the flange. Disposed between the downwardly and upwardly extending portions of the top of the barrel, at regularly spaced points are pins 16, the ends of which are reduced as at Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1916.
Serial No. 21,725.
17, and passed through suitable openings in said downturned and upturned portions, the ends of said pins which project beyond said portions of the top of the barrel having suitable nuts or washers 18 secured thereon.
On the intermediate portion of each of the pins is mounted a sleeve 19 to provide rolling contact with the inclined walls of the slots 15, the same opening through the lower edge of the flange.
At several diametrically opposite points on the head 13 are vertically extending lugs 20, the same extending radially and being arranged to be received in the bifurcations 21 of the pivoted latches 22 mounted on the upper edge of the barrel.
The latches and the lugs are apertured soas to receive the wire of a seal therethrough to lock the same against being opened. If desired, suitable pins or like devices may be passed through the other latches and lugs.
What is claimed is:
A metal barrel comprising a surrounding wall, the upper portion of which extends downwardly and upwardly within the barrel, transverse pins disposed between the downwardly and upwardly extending por- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Eatcnts, Washington, D. G.
