IMPROVEMENT IN RULERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,225, dated August 22, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS FEUSIER, J r., of Vir ginia (iity, eoinlty of Storey, State of Nevada, have invented an Improved Blotting-Ruler; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements Without further inven- A represents an ordinary paper-ruler. B is a clasp, which may be made of metal or other suitable material. This clasp, as herein represented, is made of thin sheet metal, cut and bent so as to iit the under side ofthe ruler and a portion of the upper side, and so doubled upon itself at the edge as to form alongitndinal channel, C. A

narrow piece of blotting-pad, e, such as is usually employed to take up surplus ink, has one of its edges inserted in the channel C. The pad is then folded down i'lat against the under side ot' the clasp, and its opposite edge is folded over the edge of the clasp and held in place by the ruler A, which ts in the clasp. A strip of velvet can be placed between the pad and clasp, if desired, in order to give it elasticity.

By providing a ruler With this pad the ink that has been left ai'ter drawing a line will be taken up When the ruler has been moved over it; and by using the clasp the pad can be changed as often as desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

The ruler A, having the pad c secured by the clasp B, substantially as shown and described.
